Default header gasket keeps blowing out

i have qtp headers and ive been using the gm metal gaskets. i keep getting a leak on the back primary on the drivers side header. i already broke on bolt back there trying to tighten it up too much, is there any trick to stoping the leak....when installing new gaskets, ive been tightining from the inside bolts out, from what i understand that is the correct way to do it.

Check that that the header flange isn't bent or warped.

If you are using stock bolts it is very possible they are bottoming out in the head, check it out you probably need washers on the bolts to keep them from bottoming.

that was already a problem, one of the bolts was bottoming out and i broke the bolt off. my mechanic put in new bolts, obviously he got the one i broke out. and new gaskets. being it is metal, the gm gaskets, if the bolts loosen up at all, when you retighten them, will it seal again or is the gasket blown out?

I doubt it's the gaskets that causing this problem. The GM gaskets are fine...if you were using paper gaskets that would be different.

Try copper if flanges on the headers are ok.

I don't think you can blow out metal gaskets. Most likely they are not your problem. I agree with checking to make sure the header is not bent or warped. If you don't have washers on you might want to try that too, to make sure the bolts aren't bottoming out. I've heard of people adding an extra gasket as well.

Off topic but how do like the sound of your set up, other than the leak of course? I'm switching to the exact same set-up and hope its not going to be too loud for the street.
