I personally wouldnt choose that as my first mod, "...Aftermarket mafs, don't make power, due to larger size, they make power, by tricking the computer into seeing less air, therefore the computer gives more timing, and less fuel..." (Ryan 'slow')

What to look for: PORT/SWAP/DE-SCREEN AT YOUR OWN RISK. The stock maf is good for 500hp. If by chance your maxing out your MAF contact your tuner and see what he/she recommends.
I would pick up a Lid, they can be purchased for as little as 100 dollars. Also check out jrp's profile, he has compiled a huge volume of information about various modifications, as well as other useful and interesting information.

I swapped my stock maf for a granatelli maf for the hell of it and went logging with hptuners/wideband. Where my stock maf was reading 36 lb/min, the granitelli was reading more like 31 lb/min. It also leaned me out from 13.0:1 on my tune to about 14.5:1. On a more conservative stock tune it might lean you out to a safer a/f ratio though. I'd spend the money on something else if I were you.

Descreening the MAF should be okay. I havn't done it to mine though, from everything I've seen I used to be scared of touching the MAF and now I'm just not worried about it.

leave the stock one on unported with the screen until you get a new dyno tune with a slp 85mm unit. less money and better than gran. jmho. i got my slp tuned with my heads and cam and all is well...

after building up three current generation f-bodies i would recomend leaving the maf alone until you have at least all the free mods and most of the bolt on stuff done to the car, by then you'll might go H/C or F/I or be happy with where your at power wise but still gonna need a tune then i would descrean the stock one or buy the SLP 85mm and have the car tuned for it.

no programmer is going to make you new maf ok except hp tuners, ls1edit, and flashscan. youll need to redo the maf tables in order to correct for the new sensor. i suppose you could get one if you really wanted to, but like he and i said, we would stick with stock until you have more mods. the money would be better spent on a nice cat back, ory, or maybe put it towards some headers or something.

I do remember reading an article in gm high tech and they tested the 85mm maf on a bolt on car and it lost them a few ponies right after, but in the end it did give them like 3rwhp i believe, after the computer got used to the new maf. but for 150, you could get more bang for your buck. try ls1speed if you get one, they have em cheaper...
