GMMG uninstall question....

Same sorry story. The fight has been mercifully stoppped. I took a terrible beating. I am no match for a well built exhaust system. Thank God my trainer threw in the towel after I whacked on the SLP for about two hours with no effect on it whatsoever. Not even a scratch!! The outcome was inevitable. I'm whupped, bruised and bloody. Done. Looking for a muffler shop. Any of you guys know of one in the North Atlanta/Alpharetta area?
There is a moral to this story. I know there is. I just don't what it is and don't even give a **** right now. Maybe when I recover.

Embarrassing update. But first, I'll try to post a sound clip tomorrow if I can figure out how. It doesn't really sound any different right out of the Y-pipe than it did through the GMMG. Go figure? Well, I got the intermediate pipe off both cars. One is mutilated so I ordered another from SLP. I'm still struggling with one little piece of the intermediate pipe that is stuck in the pipe that goes over the axle. I'm wondering if I should put an ORYP on the SS with the GMMG?? I don't want it too loud but it might sound better.
I will try to piece the ZL1 back together with the SLP dual/dual and then probably go to Grand muffler. I've heard good things about them. I'm in Alpharetta though and they are way over in Cobb county. Anybody know of a good shop in North Fulton? If I decide to go true duals I want somebody that can do it right. But, then again, I should probably wait until we get the boost up to 10psi and the HP up a couple of hundred more.

Just found your post and got a good laugh because I have been there before myself. Thats why I hate exhaust work, it always wins the fight.
A few notes from my fights...
1. Isn't the gmmg intermediate pipe and y-pipe bigger on the zl-1? This may be something to look at before you try to fit the dd to the zl1 y-pipe. Just a thought.
2. The easiest way to handle those over the axle exhausts is to cut the intermediate pipe as close to the slip conection as possible and just order a new intermediate pipe. Then use a saw saw to cut the inner piece out, or have a exhaust shop expand the inside to take the crimp out. Just be carful they don't go to big. Though this tip is a little late for ya at this point.
3. Wait till the exhaust shop gets ahold of it.......You think your pissed now.
My exhaust shop that I was recommended to by some very serious collector car owners made mine worse. Just have a plan when you head in and make sure they do it as close to a factory install as they can. Watch how much welding they do.
4. And.....Always have a beer right by your side when trying to tackle something like you did. After a 6 pack, you won't care how the exhaust comes out, as long as its out.

It's kicked my *** again today. Came in to cool off for a few minutes. I've beat that pipe with a 5lb. sledge hammer for 5 days. My shoulders are killing me. I've been through 5 tungsten, carbide or some kind of hard **** sawzall blades, and several $10 drill bits, chisels and vice grips. I'm soaking wet with sweat, I've got metal shavings in both eyes and pissed...I'm going out now and cut, beat, drill and smack the ever loving **** out of that thing. The ******* eye doctor will have to wait his turn at me.
I don't care what fits what....if I ever get the bastards apart, believe me, they will fit one way or another. Goddamn hard as ******* titanium exhaust pipes!!!

It's dark here so I hooked up my halogen light, sat it on the floor pointed up at the problem area and went to work with the sawzall again. My wife walked by the garage, looked at me under the lift seeing the smoke billowing from the sawzall blade and said, "You are a ******* idiot....and your leg is on fire." And, of course kept walking. Did I mention that those red hot little pieces of stainless steel leave neat little burn marks on your arms? So now I've got a nice matching second or third degree burn on my leg to match the ones on my arm. I look like I lost a sparkler fight!
Oh, and my neighbors have put me on total ignore. Not one single guy has even bothered to check out the all the pnuematic banging, screeching, screaming and hollering. I was laying on my back on the cool concrete this afternoon and I saw my neighbor walk out to get his mail. I know he saw me laying there. Hell, I could have been dead. He didn't care. Bastard. My neighborhood buddies have taken my 'never help anybody do anything' policy and turned it around on me. Who knows, I could have changed! Bastards.
I've got one last bit of dry powder. Been saving it. I'll give it a try tomorrow and I think this battle will be history. It's personal now. That little piece of stainless steel **** is going down.

My neighbors don't appreciate quality entertainment. Hell, if one of them was doing something this insane I would be camped out on a beach chair. Maybe that's why they don't bother to help. I actually pulled a chair out in my driveway a few years ago and watched three klutzy morons trying to take down a huge pine tree. They had somehow gotten a rope way up in the tree, cut a deep slice out at the base and were pulling it away from the house.....straight at them! I stopped rolling on the ground and laughing long enough to tell them that 3 ton tree wasn't going to gently glide to the ground. About a minute later it hit the ground and shook the earth. Those morons would have been buried in place...no cemetary needed! So I have helped (in a way)...the thanks I get.
Yea Brian, it looked easy. Just pull a couple exhaust systems apart. No welds just clamps. Hell, giving an enema to a giant, pissed-off grizzly would have been easier. I've got one last trick up my sleeve for tomorrow. The news tomorrow will be good.

That would have been the smart thing to do....but, I did get the little piece of the intermediate pipe out that was screwing me up. Now I've got to deflare that piece so I can get it back together. Ain't working so far.

Well, the news is not good my friends. When, and if, I recover I will explain in detail why you don't want an angle grinder running at 10,000+ rpms kicking back on you and running up your arm entangling itself in your t-shirt under your arm. We will also answer the old question, "Do grown men scream like hysterical women when under attack by a vicious, out of control power tool"? ******* DeWalt!

I had a simular experience with a air powered cut off tool. I bought band clamps when I did the gmmg with the my cme tips, but one of them were to wide. So my dumbass trys to cut one in have while holding it with my other hand. Stupid move. The grinder catches the metal and cuts the upper part of my thumb. Come to find out at the emergency room my tendon in my thumb was almost cut in half so a specialist has to be called in to stitch it up. All in all, I could have bought a box ful of ******* clamps that would work since I dropped $700 in emergency room costs.
I am with ya all the way. F-ing exhaust work sucks!!!

I tell the good, the bad and the ugly. This adventure has been only bad and ugly. No stitches. How that screaming little hellion didn't leave anything but bruises is a testament to my lightening like reflexes when a heavy duty cutting tool is spinning out of control within milimeters of big veins, tendons and curly hair. I think the primal screams really gets your adrenaline pumping. The t-shirt is now a polishing rag.
The job will be finished tomorrow. I WILL post pictures and a sound clip one way or another. Pray for me. Please.

Yeah, I would have figured at least one of your neighbors would have posted up with a brew commenting and laughing to himself up to the point when the dewalt left your hands.
I've got GMMG and thought if I wanted to I could pull it off and resell it. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe if I made one cut right when the I pipe bends up over the axle someone wouldnt mind doing one weld for a used GMMG.
