I would get ported heads and then you will overpower the guy with long tubes and still be smog legal in Ca like me.

I have the BBK shorties, it wasn't my choice to put them on since the orginal owner put them on before I bought the car. BBK's aren't carb approved, when I called them they said they wouldn't be because the market for California BBK's isn't a high demand - would be a waste of money to get them carb approved. But they do pass the sniffer, but unless you find a smog place that'll overlook the visual test they'll fail you altogether.

only thing about JBA is they rape you on the price. im going back to a smog legal setup with an STS; jet hots and TSP duals are going. with the STS im debating on whether to get shorties or 01+ manifolds extrude honed and coated.

If you look around enough you can find brand new JBA's for around $200. I just bought a set for $225 and saw someone else on here that found new ones for $175. Hinson supercars sells the cnc ported stockers for $175 also. I would only buy the JBA's from a private party, like you said they are rediculous new. Who wants to pay $600+ for shorties.

Could 6l manifolds be made to work? or would the 01s with honing be just as good with less trouble?

Most people that go to shorties do it because they are smog legal. The 6.0l manifolds would not be smog legal. I don't see how the 6.0l manifolds could be any better than aftermarket shorties or 01/02's.

I'm not trying to sell anyone on the JBA's, but the reason I bought them was because of the complaints of leaking and breakage with the edelbrock and hookers. A shop here in town will only install the JBA's because they are the only shorties they haven't had any trouble with. One more thing to consider is the edelbrock and hookers are 18 gauge vs. the JBA's 14 gauge. The thinner 18 gauge will transmit more valvetrain noise, and can sound sort of clanky IMO.

I have them on my car and I have no idea the previous owner put them on... They sound nice ? I think I need a tune to find out my numbers before I speak for the headers

jrp, the edelbrocks are only for 00-02, don't know if this'll be a problem for you. I think I'm going with the hookers, they're only $325 new. Unless, I can find a sweet deal on some JBA's like that a-hole Redneck Z.

381 hp and 374 tq with JBA shorties and stock cats here. Torque is flat as heck and hp curve is smooth. I know I am leaving some on the table by not using long tubes, but for the $100 I paid for the used shorties they do their job.

Try and find JBA's used I am sure you can find them the 14 guage steel is well worth it along with a lifetime warranty. My car actually got quieter with the shorties compared to the stock manifolds the steel is so thick!

you will pick up 10 rwhp over the restrictive 98 99 manifolds. get the mufflex test pipes and you will pick up another 5-10 rwhp and still have the option of putting them back on for the smog test. Best Ca setup in my ipinion.
