pulley install help
You don't NEED a longer bolt, but you'd be doing yourself a dis-service not to. your's worked out fine because you heated the pulley. If you don't heat the pulley so you can get enough thread engagement, you will probably strip your threads out. Maybe the stock one will allow enough thread engagement, or maybe it won't. Russian rullet. Many have stripped their threads using the stock size bolt. This is why the instructions recommend using a longer bolt. You MIGHT be able to get away with a stock size bolt, but why risk it. Why risk a major headache when it's completely unecessary? It's easy to find the measurements for the longer bolt, it's all over this site. The only time I'd consider not using a longer bolt, it if heating the pulley allowed it to seat a good deal.
