Could be a problem with a synchro in the tranny. I know mine would make a whirring noise going into gear before I got it rebuilt.

can you hear it without your ear on the shifter ****. that will magnify the hell outta any noise (kinda like how you can hear a train coming hundreds of yards away if you put your ear on the tracks.)

sounds like it might be the throw out bearing, does it go away when you push the clutch in?

im just trying to look for ideas on what to check. i dont know if the cam being bigger will just make that noise, or the airflow through the heads or what. its hard to hear it at speed or higher rpms cause the car is so loud, maybe i need it louder so this noise will be unnoticeable lol
