How can you check which model year Ls1 you have?
Is there a look up guide for the VIN or engine number at all?
Or is it more the case of having to identify components under the bonnet.
The reason I ask is I've been looking at a Z28, it was 1st registered in 2000. But that doesn't tell me what model year it is. I'm not sure when it was 1st registered so it could late on meaning the possibilty of 01 spec, but I would guess as the Camaro's where slow sellers over here in England that it could be a 99 model year that was only registered when it was sold in 00. Or of course it could be a genuine 2000.
Confused yet? Because I am.
But its rather important, as I'm sure you are all awhere if your buying LT headers or replacement lids, the model year plays an important role.
Cheers for your help.

Are there any GM/CHEVY dealers over there? If so call them and giv them the vin and they can tell you what is the year. Also if it has an egr its a 98-00, the 01/02 doesn't have them. If you dont have a dealer post the vin# and I'll call a local dealer for you.

I spent ages trying to get engine build date without success.
My engine came out of a 2002 Firebird
Nearest I got, via the VIN number and a helpfull Pontiac dealer ,was the car build date and the assumption that the engine would have only been in stock a max. of 2 weeks ish.
You should find many threads on this site to help you build up the information from the VIN.
