Default water temp gauge

i'm gonna be ordering a water temp gauge bceause the stock one sucks and doesn't work. I'm looking at the autometer 2 1/16 mechanical ultra lite gauge. they have 2 of them though...one goes from 120-240 and the other goes from 140-280. I'm not really sure what the temperature range that our cars go through. I'd like to get the 120-140 because it has a bigger area from 180-220. do our cars operate higher than 240? or is that overheating?

there is also a full sweep electric that goes from 100-260...but I don't know how that would get hooked up.

Either one should be ok. I would say the 120-240. If it gets over 240 you know its overheating or getting close to it. I got the autometer Z-series gauges, and my water temp gauge is 100-250.

You want an ELECTRICAL gauge!!! Trust me, must easier to install, and costs pretty much the same, no reason not to get it.

Temp sensor with a wire, a positive, a negative "ground", and a gauge lite wire. Its all in the instructions. When i bought mine, I called autometer before I purchased and they told me its as accurate as mechanical.

You can put the sensor in the passenger side head, in the back, but that is a bitch to get to. Or you can put it in block right above the starter. There is plug you need to remove. For this location you will also need an adapter, M16x1.5 if I'm correct. Then there is ONE wire that you run to the gauge. Thats it.

Its above the starter. You will need to drain the coolant before you remove the plug. A lot of coolant will come out of the plug as well, so be ready.
