NGK TR55 to much spark causing detonation at high RPM

I've gapped the plugs at 50 thou. get pinging just before the A4 trans shifts upon hard acceration.
Thinking of lowering the gap will 35. thou. be to small a gap?

How much timing are you running?? You would be better off switching to TR6's gapped to .035. TR55's are aroung .060 from the factory .035 would be too close.

You running 93 octane?

Like said above, I recommend steping to TR6's before closing the gap on the TR55's that small for more than a test run.

I would look at other issues. Timming, A/F ratio, Fuel Octane, What mods on the car?

If you are getting pinging at .050, then I would expect it to get worse going to .035 on the same heat range plug. As was stated, if you already have pinging, go to a colder plug if you want to run .035 (TR6).
