I think one of them is for cruise control....Different years have different setups... My 2001 SS has Cruise Control, but only one line.

Cool Picture of catch can setup. I'll be putting in my AMW soon.

I guess you have the smaller model... ...lightweight!

00firebird - Its actually a can that catches any airborne oil in your PCV system before it gets sucked back into your intake. Oil can get caked on your intake, your heads, your pistons and your combustion chambers causing all sorts or problems like ping and knock as well as just generally garbaging up the whole area.

It should have the vent line that goes to the front of the valve cover(top house on TB) and the lower hose is the pcv valve

I'm just running a small air compressor type "catch can" right now, since my KR has reached 4.0 levels. Have to wait and see how effective it will be. It does catch oil, but I wonder if the vent line from the pass valve cover needs one too.Hmmm. Think I'll post up about that.

not really a catch can but much more effective

no more knock and a very slight bit better mileage.

The vent line is in front of the throttleblade and should have vacuum.
I have checked my vent line many times cause I thought the same thing but have never had oil in that one

Im not quite sure I understand what Im looking at... The crankcase vents through your exhaust tips?

yes the hose from those fittings on the tail pipes runs up to the valve covers and I removed the pcv valve and plugged the fitting on the intake. Now none of the oil vapor goes into the intake it gets sucked out of the engine and goes straight out the tailpipes.

With that setup on it also pulls harder the faster the engine is going so under wide open throttle there is a few inches of vacuum on those lines. The pcv quits operating at full throttle due to to low a vacuum in the intake. On my mostly stock car that probably doesn't help much but on a boosted engine that would probably be a lot more useful. Either way it was the simplest way to get rid of the oil in the intake and the knock that it was causing.

Isn't there a dual purpose for venting the crankcase into the intake? The second one being to allow oil vapor into the top of the engine to add lubrication on the intake side of the pistons; lubrication that was lost when leaded gasolines were eliminated? Am not sure about this concept, but, would error on the safe side by allowing the vapor to enter the intake. This may be even more important in combating the effects of the EGR crud like rust, carbon, & scale being blown into the intake through the EGR line. An even better way to lube & clean the intake & top end of the engine is by adding an invers oiler. Probably the best way to ensure top end lubrication & cleanliness, IMO.
