Default Smooth bellow=cracked lid?

I just made my own smooth bellow with the 3"-3" fernco tubing for a whole whopping $6.48 after tax. I like it, it looks good-no problems with install (thanks for the how-to-do it post in the exhaust sticky) i've been told though that this can cause the lid to crack with a smooth bellow. is this rumor true? anybody had problems? ill try to post pictures soon to see if ive done anything wrong with the install.

It made my lid pop out in the right 2 clips all the time.
I doubt it will crack it, haven't seen one do it personally.

I have a 3x3 Fernco and mine has been working great. I have a cam that's making my engine move a little bit too. The Fernco has been on for a few months btw.

The Fernco mod probably is not a good idea. It is very thick and has almost no give in it, which you need when the engine torques over. Unless you have poly or solid motor mounts I would look into something like the SLP smooth bellows.

Don't know about the cracked lid however, my Ferco like Brandon caused my lid to come loose all the time. I just reinstalled the factory one untill I can get an SLP in place..

Smooth bellows mod = waste of money, waste of time, no proof that it does anything positive what so ever, and it can crack an aftermarket lid.

It is possible even for an SLP to crack the lid, but as was stated, unless you have broken motor mounts (or stock ones with gobs of power or an unstreetable cam) it is unlikely. The SLP will lift up/bend the tabs at the back of most aftermarket lids though.

I've got the Fernco mod here, and no problems yet, other than it being a PITA to put on. But then, I've got Prothane motor mounts, so I don't worry about the motor torquing over...

I don't see how it could ever crack the lid. It doesn't even wrap around the lid, it wraps around the MAF and TB. If it does, your lid sucks and the Fernco is fairly flexible to be able to stretch over and around the throttle body. It hasn't cracked mine and looks good. I have the direct-flo lid.
