Default MAF Problem?

I descreened my maf last week, and at the same time I sprayed the throttle body with some cleaner. Now my car idles at various rpms ranging from 700 to 1100. Also, when the rpms are brought up and allowed to come back down, it takes forever for the engine to idle. When it does finaly reach the level which it is going to idle at, if the level isn't 700 rpm, it will stay there for a minute or two and return to normal idle (700 rpm). Did my car not like the maf work; do I need to start looking for another.

On another note, I am also getting some pinging up high around 5500 rpm, and have read that this could be related.

No flames please, I use the search button WAY more than the post button and saw that it was a 50/50 shot with the maf. Just couldn't find any posts with my car's symptoms; please reply with any HELPFUL advise. Thanks, Mike.

I'd suspect more a vacuum leak, or some cleaner spooge
having bothered the IAC operation. I suggest removing
the TB and disassembling the IAC from it, so you can
clean both the main throat and the IAC passages, and
the snout of the motor carefully. On reassembly pay
special attention that the O-rings seat nicely and you
should not have any vacuum leaks.

If the MAF were consistently faulting you would see a
code from it. However it's worth inspecting the connector
for intermittents (like grief on it while the car is idling)
and pushed-out connector pins, which can happen. A
pin barely making contact could make the MAF signal
cut in and out with engine vibration etc. Though this
is a fairly low-percentage thing, still should check.

I would follow Jimmy's advise. Unless you have a way to tune for the changes you made, I would also start looking for a new MAF.

Well, I cleaned the IAC and entire throttle body. It seemed to help a little, but the car still revs down rather slowly. Turning the air on seems to make the problem worse. I'm thinking that I may have a bad IAC, or that I fixed the problem by cleaning the TB, but damaged the IAC in the process. It now only holds high rpm's after long cruises on the interstate at or above 2k.

The pinging is gone. Ran some techron though it and the pinging has completly stopped. Must have been carbon buildup.
