lowered car and slp long tube headers

Default lowered car and slp long tube headers

my car is lowered and i was just wondering if i could use the slp long tubes on it. i read before that people sold their headers when they were going to lower their car because of ground clearance..would they work and still have a little ground clearance?

SLP seem to have the worst clearance of all LT's. I wouldn't buy them, there are much better headers out there.

They will work...until the first time you go over a speed bump and they are ripped off your car. My buddy had them on his 99 ss, he had eibach springs (the 1.8 inch drop) and he dented those things up so bad it was rediculous. Unless they have recently redesigned them with better ground clearance I would stay away from them. Go with some coated pacesetter headers if your on a tight budget. If money isnt an issue then get a set of kooks or qtp LT's as they tuck up well and are top notch quality (also stainless).

Nope, don't even try it. I scrape on some speed bumps and my car is on stock height, with 18 inch Z06 wheels. Just use the money if you got it on some Kooks or save for QTP's if you want the best.

you can also do a search for longtubes on lowered cars and you will find tons of info and pics of people with longtubes and lowering springs on their cars.

This is a pic of the SLP long tubes on my 2000 T/A with Hotchkis springs. In most cases the y-pipe hangs lower than the headers, but the headers still scrap from time to time.

Wow thats pretty low, how low do those hotchkis springs drop the car? I mean it can be done but I dunno I would like to be able to drive around pretty normally and not have to worry about whacking my headers, but then again I think I live in the area with the worst roads/most speed bumps in the world lol! My buddies SLP LT's were trashed after like 5 months of driving around in the city. The final blow cam when he didnt see a speed dip and went over it going fairly fast and it whacked the headers so hard it bent the header flange off the block and cause a huge exhaust leak. After seeing that I went with the mac midlengths at stayed at the stock ride height. If you have good roads though in your area and its not a daily driver then I can see being able to get away with it. BTW your tans am looks sick lowered!

Thanks. The Hotchkis springs lowered the car about 2". The roads around here suck, so I'm just very carefull when I take my car out ( it's not a daily driver ) the only reason I went with the SLPs is that I got a great deal on them, will more than likely be changing them out for Kooks in the near future.

If you're lowered, I'd use anything but SLP's. I have SLP's and love them, but I am at the stock ride height.
