Default Check this out before spending $$$ on a catch can!

The part on the left in the pic below is GM part #12572717 and the part on the right is the OEM pcv for LS1's. Notice the much smaller hole in the new fitting. I'd like to give credit to bigdsz for helping me and telling me about this part.

Here is his quote: About 4 or five years ago I put on a truck pcv fitting on my car, I won't call it a valve, because it was not.All it was, was the same length as the OEM PCV valve but the hole was smaller in diameter. I got it at the local Chevy dealer. It eliminated my oil consumption problems. I've got 80,000 miles on my car now, heavily modded, and use no oil.All this catch can stuff is BS in my opinion. :end quote

When I was at the GM parts house I found out that this part is now listed in there system as a LS1 pcv replacement to prevent oil consumption. It only cost me $5.93. That's alot better than $160 for a catch can. Hope this helps any of you guys on a budget like me. Also a big thanks to bigdsz for the help.

Anybody else have experience with this part? I don't use a lot of oil, but I'd like to reduce the amount that makes it into my intake...

The guy at the parts department said that it looks like it would go on a truck also. That was just an opinion though and he didn't say what kinda truck. sorry. I did see on the monitor myself that, that part # was for oil consumption problems. And for under 6 bucks it isn't much of a loss if it dosen't work. And I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make the problem any worse. It is the exact same size as the OEM pcv. I already put it on the car no problem.

I guess there could be the posability of it ruining the main seals. I don't think GM would have this part as a fix if it would do that though. Then again GM engineered a poor system in the first place.

That sounds like a pretty BIG negative to me.

Ya that's a big negative. I don't think bigdsz would have suggested it though if it had done it on his car.

How long has he had it on his car? I'd be pretty bummed if it eventually ruined my main seals. I'd rather consume oil than ruin a main seal.

Ever since the revised ones came out for the pick ups in '01, guys have been using them in their LS1s. It was a pretty big deal when they came out and I know a ton of people tried them with mixed results. I think if there where any major down sides they would have shown up by now.

I remember some guys where mounting them verticly to try and get them to work but they where making all kinds of funny noises mounted like that.

Yep that the pcv valve out of the trucks. I think they are in all the trucks now but I'm not sure. It's not going to hurt your main seals. With the amount of trucks that have this valve I have seen very few with main seal leaks.

With that part, a breather, and the LS6 PCV conversion, I bet oil conpumption will be a thing of the past.

I'll give it a shot. i've got a catch can and it catches an easily noticeable amount of oil every 5000 mi when I change my oil. I'll swap it out next oil change and see what the can looks like after 5000 mi

I think they are in other cars as well, besides trucks, at any rate I installed one 10,000 miles ago and have had no ill effects. My engine does use less oil. I wasn't sure how much, but found out when I ported my stock throttle body. It was caked in oil all throughout that thing, and now several thousand miles later the TB looks like it did when I cleaned up all the oil and sanded it down-no oil residue at all, so it must be working. I thought the oil consumption was causing detonation as I could here it clacking on acceleration, this was in California, then I moved to Michigan and the problem disappeared-must have been the gas. Just thought I'd mention this since I've read many people blaming it on the oil consumption.
