Default LS1 jacking points

I'm getting ready to put my LS1 inside the rx7. I was wondering how to go about attaching it to the engine hoist. The motors I've worked with before had brackets attached to them that you could just hook to the engine hoist, but I can't seem to find any such brackets on my motor.

If anybody needs a picture or something to use paint to draw where the mounts are, here's a picture of the motor.

Run bolts into the heads (front and back) to attach a chain.

anybody know why that is?? i'm guessing its because at the assembly plant the motors were installed from the bottom and they had no need for hooks for a hoist.

If you lift the engine with a leveler that has the brackets like the one in the pic, you will scratch the heck out of your firewall, and have a hard time getting the rear brackets off when it's in place. Ask how I know.

I use the bolt holes in the lifter valley for mine, using a leveler just like in the picture, 4 attachment points and large washers on the bolts. I've had it in and out, with the tranny attached, at least 5 times, and NO damage at all. Makes it a dream to manuever, and its easy to attach/detach.

Of course YMMV.

FERG43: Thanks! And yeah, I'm on v8rx7. I'm xthephilx on the forums there as well. If you're interested, take a look at my HID retrofit into the stock popups: www.the-phil.com

Digitalsolo:

Those holes? the driver's side head hole is obscured in the first picture.

Anyway, I get bolts the size of those holes, stick some washers on the end, and then run the chains like in the other picture?

Also, would those 4 points hold the entire motor and tranny combo? I'm installing the LS1 AND the T56 simultaneously.

Where are the holes in the lifter valley?

Does anybody have the bolt sizes for those holes?

Arrgh, can anyone confirm that the motor won't fall apart if I lift it by the heads?

Does anybody know the bolt sizes for either the bolts I circled, or the bolt sizes and locations for the "holes in the lifted valley" that digital solo mentioned?

If you take the intake off, you will see a plate that covers the lifter valley, if you take that off, you will see bolt holes along the perimeter (that the cover plate bolts to). I use the 4 outermost corner holes for this.

You MUST have a leveler with plates that bolt down (like the picture in the link above) for this to work. If you use just chains, you have a good chance of damaging either the surface of the block where the chains are attached, or breaking a bolt. Heed this warning.

But, if done correctly, it's the best place to lift I've found.

If I use the outer holes, and use washers to space the chains from the block, can I use those holes instead? By the outer holes I mean the ones I circled.

Also, I need to buy a leveler. The hoist I bought didn't come with one. Any reccomendations?

I pulled my motor from the top using the bolt holes highlighted above. Worked good. I did however have the intake off.
