Default Who's running cats with AIR deleted?

Just trying to get an idea of which cats don't require the AIR system, I posted about this earlier but didn't get much answers. I'm looking at Magnaflow/carsound cats and trying to ditch the AIR if I can get away with it. I don't want to clog the cats up all the time though.

How long have you been running with the AIR deleted? Are Magnaflow cats a straight through design or something? Everywhere I go I hear that deleting AIR will eventually clog cats? I've even e-mailed Magnaflow about this with no response.

I would figure that the front and rear o2's would be enough to keep the mixture in check. I know that AIR only runs on startup and it seems hard to believe that the cats would clog in such a little amount of time.

Not all cars have an AIR system so why should I?

So, what does ERG and AIR do that warrants the removal in the first place? Do they steal HP or affect sound?

not really, but they do clutter the engine bay and add weight. I'm not too sure about the egr cause my car doesn't have it in the first place and judging by your sig pic you don't have it either.

there is a very easy way to find this out.

Pick up the telephone and give Magnaflow a ring, and ask them if AIR is required for their CATS?

AIR has no effect on glogging or not glogging the CAT.

There is also no such thing as a straight thru CAT. They work by having a ceramic 'brick' with lots of small holes running thru it. As the exhaust gases pass thru the brick they produce a chemical reaction, which neautralises certain chemicals, lowering emmisons. The AIR system pumps air into the CAT to help promote this chemical reaction, as arule the AIR system only runs for a short while after start up.

Many CATS do not require an AIR system, so check with the manufacturer. This way you'll know for sure.

Thanks, I e-mailed them but no reply. I have called their tech support guy before about something, can't remember, and I think the dude was high. He wasn't much help at all.

yeah that's a real pain when that happens. I especially hate it, as for me it's an international call.

All the AIR system does is add air to the exhaust stream to help the cats get up to temp faster.
