Porting TB Question

Porting TB Question I am thinking of porting and polishing the TB while I have my rear end apart. I can find plenty in the search but i was wondering if it is absolutely necessary to epoxy the hole? If it is necessary how do you know where to drill the two holes and what size do you drill them?

So do you just grind off to the little ridge? How do you know how much to take off? Also, how much bigger does it make the inlet to the TB?

Just remove the ridge. When the ridge is gone you are done grinding, just take your time so you do not remove any material where the blade sits. Then get a beverage and start sanding from the blade to the inlet.

I just recently ported mine and did do the epoxy. I wouldn't say it's absolutely necessary, really just a matter of preference. I used plumber putty and used a couple bic pens coated in pam (for easy removal) to create the holes while the plumbers putty was still pliable. Once it dried I just cleaned up the holes with the dremel. As for the hole location it's pretty easy to estimate where to make them because you're not working with a big area.

Look at the pics in those zip files and u'll see exactly where the holes need to be. When I drilled the holes from when I put JB weld on my TB, I started with a really small drill bit and worked my way up and it seemed to work really well.

I epoxied mine (putty style) and used knitting needles from WalMart as the tubing - they are thin-wall aluminum just perfect for this application.
It seems clear to me that the large, irregular area in the stock TB would disrupt airflow. However, it would be nice if someone could flow a stock TB, a ported TB, and then the ported TB epoxied.

I'd emagine that the reason he doesn't is because it would triple his turnaround time and the gains from the extra effort isn't worth it when trying to run a business. If you're porting your own TB, I'd suggest doing it. TB porting is all about getting every last bit of hp that you can so why leave some on the table?
