IF the pipe is 2"flat--it flows the same as 2" round------look at NASCAR,DR.GAS,and some others....ask your friendly neighbourhood muffler guy who has been doing it for a long time--he"ll tell you the same thing.... 
--and while we are debating this--ALL flow charts from muffler companies use water,not airflow---this makes a 100% difference in how a given muffler will flow...

I'm not disagreeing, just wondering... Seems like the flow might change a little (even though the volume hasen't changed), do to the agressive change in shape at the begining of the flat part of the pipe.
