Default How Loud is yours?

I just had the loudness of my SLP loudmouth system measured for a study some engineering students at MSU are doing. My car has stock cats, y and manifolds. It was measured using GMs standard at roughly 3750rpm, 65* outside, and engine at temp. Driver-side tip avg. was 105dB. Passenger tip avg was 112dB (because of basically straight pipe on this side). I had the loudest car they tested only got beat by a harley with aftermarket pipes (i have no idea what they were) at 118dB. I was told all of the other cars with aftermarket exhuasts were not above 100dB. Anyone have #'s on thier rides to share?

Here's a link that compares dB's of everday sounds if your curious.

We had to keep it at 3750 for comparison purposes. We didnt have time to play around to see what it was at higher rpm's i had to get back to work i sacrificed my lunch hour as it was. Im sure it would be up around that maybe alittle less since i dont have headers. i thought about gutting the cats i had about 3 weeks to do it since i found out but to much overtime the last few weeks scrapped that idea, oh well i have till the snow melts next spring.

If they stuck that little measuring device on my cutout during a 6400rpm rev, I think it would plug its ears.

I don't know how loud mine would be by those standards, but it is LOUD. I measured it at a 5500 rpm rev from behind the car and it maxxed out the scale (130+ dB)

i would also like to know what the legal limit is as i am probably over it. it would be nice to get mine checked somewhere and keep the paper in my car if i get pulled over. any added insurance helps.

I'm also on board for wondering how loud my dual setup sounds. From what people have told me, it sounds loud (not too loud) but it has a smooth tone. No rasp .

mine is 88 decibel cruising on 6th @ 75 mph with stock everything but GMMG cat back
dont know about outside, anything around 90 decibel and above will damage the ear drums! so my doctor say !
get earplug and call it a day
(I actually used them on my car and its sweet when driving for 3 hours straight

bye

I honestly havent heard an LSX powered car that is louder than mine, aside from open headers. 3" mandrel bent Y-pipe, no cats, into a 3"-4" flowmaster merge and a 5" X 12" dynomax race bullet, dumped at the axle. At the drive through I have to kill the car, its pointless even trying. I set off car alarms at 1500 rpms. Inside the car is basically unbearable at any speed, you dont know drone, I actually get sick to my stomach the vibration is so harsh. Old muscle car guys give me a big smile and a thumbs up, women (especially in nicer cars) give me atleast a dirty look, and sometimes yell things like, "WHY THE **** DO YOU NEED A CAR THAT LOUD!!!!" This be why I am putting on alittle more "involved" muffler and getting the **** behind my car. Decibel test..........I dunno, maybe 140 at WOT. Seriously. TSP 231/237 112, 1 3/4 dynatec LTs, 11.2:1 compression.

Not sure how loud my system is... I just put it in on monday: pacesetter LT's with TSP True Duals. Love the sound and all i can tell you about the loudness is that it's enough to set off car alarms while driving through the parking lot. This happened to me this morning when i was leaving class here at UNM. All i could do was laugh, he he he

From a doctor and a nurse the actual point of damaged/loss of hearing starts @ approx 155 db and your heart can stop @ 164db so if you look @ it, BBC's w/ straight headers tend to be somewhere near 150+ because they are chest poundingb as hell AND they do tend to mess up hearing of many people. and thats jsut at IDLE!
