Default LS6 manifold swap; grinding ridges

I have an LS6 intake manifold going on a 98LS1, you do not have to buy the coolant tubes and plugs right? You can just grind down the ridges on the bottom of the manifold? I remember reading this somwhere so I though I would ask. Thanks.

i didnt buy the plugs/tubes for mine. all i did was figure out where the ls1 pipes ran and used a dremel to clear a path. been like that for quite some time and havent had any problems

why grind the ridges and risk compromising the integrity of the manifold? IMO if the engineers @ GM had thought it was a worthwhile idea to just create paths for the lines, they would have. thats why they created the plugs and new front line

That's what I was going to do. Just wanted to make sure.

And Grinding those off is not going to weaken the integrity of the manifold, those are just from the mold, are like 1mm thinck and 2mm tall, they should have nothing to do with the structure.

Thanks for the help.

You might be better off doing it the other way with the plugs.
Any grinding would probably not be for the best.

If you just asked the question to get the answer you wanted to hear, to appease your worries of ******* something up due to half assing something, then what was the purpose of asking the question?

How is that half ***. the manifold has little rasied lines on the bottom that do absolutly nothing and are in the way of the LS1 coolant lines, so if you remove those little raised lines it will fit. How is doing something easier and cheaper that works perfectly fine half ***. If it worked half *** then it would be half ***.

I was just asking to see if anyone has done this without problems, I knew I had read about it awhile back, and people have apparently done it with no problems. Have any of you ever done the quick headlight fix on your firebird, that would be more half *** than this since it only works so long(course then i guess the original design is half *** since it only works for a little while anyways, )

If people would have been saying, it works but the manifold is hard to get on, or youn have to really tighten then to get it to sit on there right. Then I would think, huh, well this is half *** I'll buy the tubes. But since it works just fine I'll save myself the money thanks.

Just because GM or any other car maker for that matter makes a part one way does not mean that it will only work that way. They cant possibly have the publics intention in mind when they design something.

GRIND IT

Grinded and sanded them all off today, looks like it came that way from the factory, I'll post pics when I get a chance. Took about 30min to an hour to do. That's worth $50 to me.
