Question

Now i got confused
Is the AIR and EGR a F-Body/pre 2001 Car only Problem? I thought there are street legal Gen III & IV engines with out EGR and AIR System cos of ETC, better cams and PCM. Judging from this answer, there is no AIR "Today"
http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...d.php?t=355404 or am i ?

To plug to EGR hole: GM PN 12558346 looks better

I'm almost sure that in Texas you would need this on to pass inspection, right? Can anyone out there verify?

Removing the AIR won't throw a code. If your car is equipped with EGR and you remove that, then that will throw a code.

Started header install this past weekend. First things off the car was the EGR/AIR system. Now if I had only bought race style headers.

Removing the air pump (AIR) won't throw a code. Removing the EGR will throw a code. I can almost guarantee that a GM dealer won't help remove a code for an emissions device that has been removed. Unless you have a buddy that works there.

No one mentioned it is a violation of federal law to remove, modify or otherwise change any part of the federally mandated polution equipment, regardless of what state you live in. The fine is $10,000.I can get 450rwhp with all legal carb approved equipment except for cheater cam, and my car will pass any states inspection.Car will idle smoth as silk at 600 rpm and run like a cat with its *** on fire.

Im going to leave my AIR system, But I did remove the EGR. I will see a smog ref when I go to smog it and tell him I put a 01-02 motor in it. If you read through the smog laws you will find that there is some leway. The AIR system dosent affect performance at all. Just looks messy. Good thing Im not a ricer who has to open his hood for everyone to make them think im fast.

I just dropped my engine/tranny to upgrade my heads/cam. As long as it was out, the guy that was helping me just ripped the AIR stuff out, including the pump. Now I just gotta fab up some kind of block-off for the fitting on each header.

Technically you need to have it to pass. In TX you only need to pass the OBDII scan and the visual check.

Removing the AIR system will make you fail the visual check. Also many places you can find to pass this up since it's only a visual check. So if you aren't throwing any codes you'd be good to go if you can have them pass up the visual check.

Removing the AIR pump WILL throw a code. I removed JUST the lines from the manifolds (before i got headers, wanted clean engine bay), and left the pump, thinking it would think it was still working

It has a pressure differential sensor of some sort and CAN tell if the pump is actually feeling a little back pressure when the car is running.

Removing the entire pump will definatly set off a code (i can imagine).

When you vote in an ancient thread, it bumps the bitch! Don't bump it unless you're asking a question or adding a WORTHWHILE comment. We've got enough damn threads already!
