Been using the Harlan for about 3 years now, is a great piece, couldn't live without it. Well, I could but I'd be banging the limiter a **** ton.

Whoever says shift lights are a waste (in a manual car) is a fool. If anything, the shiftlight is more useful IMHO then a monster tach, though I don't fault anyone for having one.

Another thumbs up for the Raptor shift light. I also have mine mounted on the pillar in a grommet. Very easy and clean install. Definitely a nice little item.

A couple of my buddys told me it was a waste, and only a p*ssy would need a light to tell him when to shift.
I still got one and love it. Its hard not to hit rev-limiter when your roasting the tires.

I'm an Auto, kind of and I just got my Blue Harlan in the other day. Will probably install in center vent, where I want to put the Fuel Press and Nitrous Press Guage, possibly a trans temp. You really need one with these cars. Oh yeah, mine is now an A3 reverse man. shifted!

Raptor here, great investment ... only trick to the shift light is: DO NOT WATCH YOUR TACH ... my tach is on average (depending on the gear i'm in) about 300-400 slower than the light. The first few times I drove w/ it I watched my tach to get an idea when it was gonna go off (set at 6400) and according to my stock tach in 1st gear it lights up at ~6000. So it caught me off gaurd the first few times.

Autometer here, without aftermarket tach. I can truely say that it helped me drop 2-3 tenths due to better/more accurate shifting points and not banging the limiter. As stated above, our stock tachs are useless!!

I have a red Harlan's light sitting in my room but am scared of screwing something up electrically by installing it myself. Does anyone have a painfully detailed write-up for someone who has never installed anything electrically, complete with lots of pictures?

Chock another one up for the harlen, the orginal owner I bought my 02' from bought it but never got around to installing it. I have mine set to the lowest setting (5300) just so I don't bounce off rev limiter, and I've come close a couple of times so for me personally it's money well spent. Here are a couple of pictures of where mine's installed:
