The best cats are either the random metalics , or the powercat metalics for about half
the price.

The best cats that I know are the magnaflow cats that kooks uses. George from kooks said they are metallic and flow 572 cfm each.

The kooks magnaflow cats come without heatshield - so they will attract
attention during inspection - any idea where I could get heatshields for these?
I called Kooks and magnaflow and they declined to help,

shouldnt matter if they attract attention as long as you have cats there.

I found this website selling these high flow cats for $36.95 each. They are called thunderbolts. I dont know how long they will last before they blow out but was thinking about trying them for being that cheap.

I was under the impression that he carsound/magnaflow cats were only good for about 400 cfm? If they do flow 500+ cfm I will have to keep them for my upcomming exhaust change to duals. anyone have any definate info on this?

How do the metallic cats work? I thought the whole reason cats worked at all for emissions is because the ceramic material is very conductive of heat, and is able to "superconduct" it and actually gets hotter than the exhaust once warmed up.

The older carsound/magnaflow cats might have flowed around 400 cfm but the new ones, that may only be made for Kooks, flow around 570-580 cfm. The only certainty I have of this information is based on what George from Kooks told me. Here are two pictures illustrating the differences. The one on the left are the older cats and the one on the right are the newer cats.

poo! I have the older ones then

Does anyone know the part number or series for the 500+ cfm converters. I would like to keep the cats to help keep the exhaust quiet, but I dont want to kill the flow.

Anybody tried using the 'PYPES' brand cat? They have the same deminsions as the
power cats. 11inch overall. 7 inch installed. 4 inch dia. with a very small heat shield.
At 60.00 apiece delivered the price is great??

I'd like to know as well. Anyone has a p/n for the better flowing (500+ cfm) magnaflow converters ?

I'll need them in 2.5" in/out so I can weld them into my MAC ORY...
