Dude, don't do it !!!!
Gutting the cats will gain you 1-2 rwhp - not even close for you to even feel anything.
In addition you exhaust fumes will smell bad.
Find some other budget projects. Maybe port your own throttle body. Will cost you under $20 if done yourself, and a lot more gains that way now, and it the future.

It'll be louder, alot louder.....kinda raspy between 2000 and 2500 RPMS
before and after that it sounds great, lots of poppin & cracklin (backpressure)
and it sounds alot more raw....not real deep like with just the magnaflow...
Oh, and I know this because I gutted the cats on my stock Y with a Magnaflow catback when I first got my car....

well, i had nothing better to do, so i went ahead with it. it wasnt too bad. i did snap 2 bolts on the driverside cat, but they were easy to drill out and i had plenty of bolts and nuts laying around. other than that, everything went well and i am definately loving the new sound!!! and the fumes i only smell if i am behind the car. performance wise, i dont think i felt anything but it didnt hurt it either. and did i mention i love the sound?

Just wondering why 98TADRIVER is catching hell for gutting his cats, and nobody says anything to someone who does a TB bypass or some other free mods, which will probably gain them even less hp.?

If nothing else he got to spend time working on his car, and he got a changed exhaust sound that he likes.

i agree, gutting your own cats, will actually create air turbulence. you will not see any power gains.
for cheap power port your own TB and do the throttle body bump stop mod! also if you havent yet, cut your radiator shroud and cut the egr off in your TB.

did almost all free mods, i have left to do: Port TB and i started on bump stop mod, just need to hook something up so i know how far open it is. and i like the sound of the gutted cats i wasnt worried about big power gains, as previously stated in the forum.

If you gut the cats and put a pipe through them then and weld them back shut, it's like having straight pipes back to your muffler....thats what I did on mine, and seen a 4-7 RWHP gain from it on the dyno...
