As far as it turning acidic and eating aluminum, thats just wrong. The pH level of antifreeze does not change, it is the water mixed with the antifreeze that changes do to electrolysis, this happens when the vehicles electrical current passes through the coolant (happens in all vehicles). This is the reason for flushing the cooling system. The Dex-Cool stabilizes the pH level for a longer period of time than the conventional antifreeze.
You can run straight water with a water wetter depending upon where you live. However it is very possible that you can develop drivablility problems such as missfires. This is due to the coolant absorbing too great amount of current, which is possible with running straight water. (This exact prblem occured in our shop 2 days ago. You could stick a probe from a labscope into the radiator and read 5 volts passing through the coolant.)

GM has to pay the bill for all warranty work done at dealerships, the dealership makes the money, not GM, so GM wouldn't want anything that will cause extra repairs to be done.
.
Dexcool will turn to mud if you have somewhere air is leaking into the system, so it is important to keep an eye on it.
Just use dexcool in our cars.
Is there something in water wetter
