Ram Air question
There are few approaches to getting more air in:
1) Add one of the MANY Cold Air Induction kits ($200 - $300) that run a scoop down in front of the air dam, plus a new air box lid ($100) that eliminates all the stock baffles
2) get a Raptor Hood ($700) that feeds air via two big holes into the open slot in the front of the stock air box, plus the air box lid as above ($100)
3) Get a WS6 hood ($600) plus WS6 Air Box ($300)
I chose door number 1...
There are lot of other minor variations.
It opens exactly the same as a base model air box, only difference is it's elevated (bigger opening/gap) to allow air from the hood scoops in at speed.

I think you might be confused. We're not talking about how the airbox opens in terms of the lid coming off to change the air filter and such (yes the lid does obviously open upward to remove the filter) . The question is in regards to where/how big the opening is that lets outside air into the airbox/lid assembly.
There is not a single LS1 F-body (including WS6) ever to come from the factory with an air box that has its air inlets on the top of the airbox. That was the LT1 SS/WS6 cars that used to be setup that way, and at least one aftermarket LS1 hood manufacturer uses that style as well. That is not the stock configuration for LS1s. Stock LS1 opening is on the bottom of the air box, and the air is forced/sucked in through a gap between the bottom of the air box and the frame crossbrace. Only difference with the WS6 cars is that the gap between those two is taller (hence bigger) to allow the hood scoops to force more air in at speed.
