Your idle goes up with the A/C on.

The motor is under greater load with the A/C system running (compressor engaged). I've also noticed a louder exhaust note while accelerating into midrage rpm when the A/C is running. Idle also seems a little louder.

Not to highjack, but I noticed back when I had my v10 2500 dodge ram, it felt like it made more power and was quicker when i had the a/c on. All I could think of was that maybe the computer bumped the timing up to compensate for the extra load

Odd. All the cars I've ever had (with properly working A/C systems) have always felt at least a tad bit slower....with the lesser horsepower cars obviously feeling the greater loss. And the cars with smaller motors (4 cyl) have even required noticeably more throttle input to acheive the same acceleration level with the A/C on vs being off.

Oh yeah, the 4 cyl ******** I've driven in the past have all been pitifully slower with the a/c on, but what are you gonna do....besides step up to a real car?

I loved the power my old v10 dodge made, but the 10 mpg at best on teh highway was horrible.

It's funny, my cam sounds much more aggressive/lopey with the ac on vs. off...

That's another effect that was oppsite for me.

I tuned my idle speed to be the same with the A/C on or off, and my B1 cam was much more lopey with the A/C off.

Strange

I thought the later model cars cycled the A/C off when under WOT. I've noticed the air getting warm after flooring it in an old Focus I used to have. I also had a friend with a Dodge truck 5.2 claim to have the same issue.

Thats due to the load the AC puts on the engine when it is on.

So you turned up the idle speed to match the idle of when the ac was on. When the ac tuned on and the idle speed was already up and then the idle speed was increased due to the ac being on it smoothed out as a cam does as rpm increases. Unless your saying you can adjust the idle speed increase from the ac being on and you made sure no matter what accessory you turned on idle always stays the same. Interesting.

Yes, I did my own tuning with LS1 Edit. I had idle speed set to be the same with the A/C on or off. It always loped quite a bit more with the A/C off. As soon as I'd turn it on and the compressor would engage, the idle would smooth out some.....

Quick Reply: my exhaust is way louder with ac on why?
