Pacesetter makes a really good header for the price. Why the ceramic coating is put on headers is because they get extremly hot and will keep tempatures under the hood cooler as opossed to without the coating. Another benifit of having your headers ceramic coated is that it prevent corrosion much better than a header that is not coated. Headers that are not coated often times will rust very quickly (the finish that comes on a non-ceramic coated header will almost instantly burn off and look rusty). Some people get non-coated headers and then wrap them in a fiberglass wrap, this way you dont pay the price for the coating and still have the benifit of having low engine bay temps. but the downside is it looks like crap. The price for the pacesetters is unbelieveable and wish they had a good deal for c5 headers. Below is a link of the wrap I explaned.

thank you, think im going w/ coated headers then.
do you have to do any tuning after this or would it run fine?
also is this something that can be done at home or would you need a welder?

Tuning definately helps! Headers can be installed with most of your basic shop tools. You don't need a welder unless you plan on welding your exhaust together.

Which we did... BTW.

Instead of ebay, try some of the sponsors-----> They are often much cheaper, they have great customer support, and they help keep this site running. I got a great deal on my pacesetters from Byunspeed.

There are several mail-in tuning people that will get you a basic tune for pretty cheap. wait4me will do it for $75 and re-tune as much as you want for free. Not quite as good as a dyno tune, but definately better than nothing. Look him up, you won't be disappointed. Not sure who else does mail-in tunes, just search around and you will find them.

I just bought some kooks and sent them to jet-hot. Every other headers i ever bought were jet hot coated and they cool off super fast. well worth the money in my opinion and i like black headers not the chrome look.

They send you your tunes per e-mail and you install them on your programmer like a predator, and then install that tune in your car. I tried that when i got my headers. My car went from stock tune and running rich, to a couple of e-mail tunes and running even richer and losing more power. Get a real tune or not at all. Remember. For a mail order tune you still gotta buy a $300-$400 programmer. Might as well get the mods you want and get a real dyno tune. And yes. Coated is better. I have uncoated pacesetters and they rusted within months.

Since you're in Texas, you might post in the Texas regional forum to see if anyone near you has LS1 edit or HPTuners, and would be willing to tune your car for you (it'll likely be cheaper than the mail order tune) or get the program yourself, and learn to use it

Actually, you ssend them your pcm, of you can buy a used one with your custom tune on it for about $75. My tune was spot-on on the first try. Completely happy with wait4me's tune

Mild steel headers benefit more from coating than do stainless steel headers. Stainless won't rust, so you don't need coating for that. Also, stainless steel has different thermal properties than mild steel. They tend to heat up slower, and shed heat faster than uncoated, mild steel.

I've had Kooks stainless headers in two WS6's, and have never had any heat-related problems in either the passenger compartment, or the engine bay.

Coated headers DO look nice, though.
