Default Y-pipe question

Is there a Y-pipe thats made to replace the flat, oval shaped portion of the stock exhaust and bolt onto the stock cats???? I noticed SLP makes a Y pipe, but I think it gets rid of your cats and bolts to the manifold. I need to keep my cats, but I want that oval pipe gone. Thanks guys!

The SLP Y-pipe works with stock cats. They also have one for their headers, but if you want to keep the stock cats/manifolds, they have one for that too.

Truth is, it's a waste of money. That flat/oval portion of the stock Y actually flows quite well, and there is really nothing to gain by replacing it. The stock manifolds/cats are a bigger restriction than the Y-pipe is.

Hey, thanks for the info! You just saved me some time and money! ...I just assumed from looking at it that it would be restrictive.
Hopefully once I pass smog the first time when going back to Cali, I'll just throw some Mac Mids on and get away with it afterwards haha. Only need to get it smogged once for registration, then my area code doesnt require smog.

Well I cant say it add much power but with tuning you should be able to get some power and at least some good sound. The stock y-pipe is flat on one side like you said and the round side is a 2 1/2 I belive, the SLP pipe makes the flat side a 2 1/2" pipe also. The best one for your money is lgmotorsports y-pipe it is a 3" pipe stainless steel with mandrell bends and it is $199 like the SLP but shipping is only 25 dollars and its a bigger pipe. This is a new product from lgmotorsports(brand new) so you have to call to get it its not even in the catalog (online) yet

Not nearly enough to justify the price. Gains from a new Y-pipe will be basically nothing or near nothing on stock cats/manifolds.

I bought one from SLP and it seemed to wake my car up. I also had a better muffler installed before the Y pipe was put in. I guess it depends on the car, I am happy with mine and I got it cheap plus free shipping from TByrne! Hope this helps!

Perfect, this thread just may answer my question. Tomorrow I'm having my cats taken off,, and I was considering having a 3" y-pipe made is replacement of the stock one. It will be cheap a friend is doing it, so in your oppinions should I just take the cats out or take out the cats and a 3" y-pipe? Also, will there be a diffence in sound with no cats and the stock pipe, vs. no cats and 3" pipe?

Very little. You may or may not notice a difference at all, some say they can and others (like myself) can't. Guess it also depends on the catback.
