Default How much difference will a 85mm MAF make?

I have most of the bolt-ons(headers, pulley, free-mods,etc) and I am spraying a 125 wet shot. I have a lid and the smooth bellow, however, I am now wondering how much difference having a 85mm MAF and 85mm lid would make over my set-up. Is it worth the $ to swap. Thanks

I had abad experience with the 85mm maf on my old t/a, all it did was throw a ses code for low frequency or low voltage maf. I would spend my 180-300 bucks on something else, like an intake manifold, or exhaust.

Me too, I didn`t see any dyno differences between stock and 85mm.

Yeah, do some searches on here, I had one in the plan and from what I've read you gotta be making 500-600+ before the 85 mm maf helps any.

Thanks everyone. I have full exhaust underdrive pulley, slp flo-pac, and a nx nitrous system. I guess this is all the smaller things that I can do. I think my next step will be a torque converter.

I don't think it makes much of any differance unless you're running the 90/90 setup.

based on your mods, it would give u about negative 5-10 HP. seroiusly though, its a hit or miss mod, leaning mostly to the missing. dont waste ur money

I have a 85mm on my sey-up. No problems with it so far. I have 90/90 all the way threw. Even my TNT ring is ported 90. I also have TS air lid 85mm. This was on my 346. Now its on my 408!

GM High Tech tested on a while back. It added 2.8hp and 2.7lb/ft over the stock MAF. It only picked up power at peak. The curve was basicly the same as the stock MAF.

In comparison on the same test a Meziere electric water pump picked up 4.0hp and 4.8lb/ft and it made more power everywhere especially under the curve.

Hope this helps.

I really appreciate all the info. Looks like a 85mm is not for me at this time. By the way, i forgot to mention that I have already ported my throttle body. One more question; I know where I can get aftermarket ends for the maf cheap. I know that I would have to recalibrate the MAF after I put them on, but will the aftermarket ends do any good? Thanks

You will have to recalibrate if you put the aftermarket ends on. Bad idea. The stock maf is the one part the factory got right. Leave it alone.
