Underdrive Pulley needed?
Is the pulley a needed mod? Some have it, some dont. Short of a higher potential to throw belts, and some small gains, is it really needed?
I'm scared to touch the stock pulley unless it will really help the HP gains.

I run a 25% Ud pulley and it has given me a about .2 down the quater, but non cammed cars it doesn't seem to make much difference, perhaps a little better economy,
but it does stop the belt squeal overrun problem.
I have never thrown or worn out a belt in 60,000 miles after fitting it.
I have the'powerbond brand'

I think the main reason that people get it other then the HP/ET/MPH gains is that when you're doing a cam swap you have to remove the stock pulley regardless of if you want to put on a UD pulley or not (QTP's two peice timing cover aside). You also have to reinstall a pulley regardless. You might as well put a better piece on, it's exactly the same amount of work as having a stock one.

That makes perfect sense. I am planning a cam swap, so that would work.

I had an ASP underdrive pulley and didn't like it, I'm glad to be rid of it. It really effected the driveability of my T/A. It made my T/A very hard to steer at idle speeds, parking was a bitch. It made my turn signals work very slow and my battery went dead a few times.
I did notice a difference at the race track, I picked up a tenth on a 1/8 mi. track and my tires wouldn't hook as well. There were definetly power gains, I couldn't deal with the steering problems though, so I took it off. You will only notice it at the track not while driving normally.
I'm not going to say it's a bad mod, but I will say that it didn't work for me.
