i never used a breather on mine, just tucke dthe a.i.r. hose outta the way and no problems for me. i'd sugest doing the free ram air (cutting the bottom of the air box so air can come in from underneath the car) and getting and aftermarket lid. all lids are the same as far as hp goes....just fine one you like or think looks good. the only drawback to doin free ram air is that in stop and go traffic, the incomming air is eal warm due to the air passing the radiator on the way up. BUT the drawback to a cold air kit like the SLP one is that it could potentially suck up a lot of water at once and lock your engine up.

i've done the free ram air w/ an MTI lid and have no complaints. and for $100 vs. the $300....that give you an extra $200 to put towards somethin else.

just get an SLP or MTI Lid from a sponsor like Thunder or something and save the other 200 towards an exhaust system.

In all honesty just a lid (SLP or TSP) and an OEM paper filter will see about the same as the $300 SLP kit.

There are some aftermarket ram kits which seem to help, but they don't really ram they only act as cold air ducts. The bellows offers nothing except appearance and can be done yourself for less than $10.00 (check the LS1 & ethsiasts forum sticky's).

The SLP CAI -raised- my inlet air temps by tens
of degrees, I already had the SS hood but the
"mobetta" impulse got the better of me. The
stainless picks up heat from the nearby radiator
(which it also shrouds for airflow, especially if
you try to stack on a trans cooler). If you want
one of the "ram air" schemes one made of plastic,
with a long "snorkel" that gets you actual cold air
and not hot stuff wafting back off the radiator
as you sit at idle with the fans off, is what you
want.

The only thing worse than buying an intake air
heater, is buying a kit of other semi- and totally-
worthless mods with it. Be choosy, be cheap,
get more go for the dough.

Honestly, if you want a CAI, get the Volant. Its the best system I've used. My IAT's are always close to if not off from about 10*F from outside temps, and while driving, you can watch my temps drop even more! Its quite the system and works VERY well.

I put a vote in for the Volant system!

The cold air is proven to work and it does ram air in the intake, the next time i go to the track i am going to run my Ftra blocked and then do a run right after it unblocked. this has also been done and PROVEN, please read http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...sity/index.htm

i am tired of people saying, "just do the free ram air it is the same as ftra or ssra or slp, NO THEY ARE NOT, think about it one is sealed and the other is not...if money is an issue do the free ram air but if your are speaking of performance gains FREE RAM AIR is not equal to FTRA/SSRA/SLP CAI

For all of you that doubt that the FTRA works and want to give it a shot, mention this post and we will sell you an FTRA for 159.99 and include free shipping within the continental US. Valid until next Friday only.

The gas savings alone from the kit will eventually pay for itself!
