Best Headers for the Buck
I have SLP LM Catback and need to get some headers on the car along with a y pipe. What is my best route for getting the best bang for my buck with headers an y while still staying legal with emmisions.
I'd say go for Pacesetters. They can be had coated for $400, but if you've already got a Loudmouth catback, you'd better get a Y-pipe with cats. Otherwise with an offroad Y-pipe (no cats), your exhaust will be LOUD AS HELL, raspy, and have tons of drone to it. Many people think it will be awesome, but quickly get tired of how annoying it is. Just a precaution.
Pacesetters can be bought coated for right under $400 which is the cheapest you will find plus they are great headers. I dont know the price of the Victor Juniors but they are the best looking headers I've ever seen. Make sure to stay away from the SLP's because they hang way lower than other LT Header brands and I've heard the collectors suck plus they are expensive.
No long tube OR mid length header is emissions legal. You could swing passing emissions with cats in place and proper tuning, but visual would fail.
Pacesetter is the agreed upon leader in bang for the buck among headers.
If you go with them, I suggest getting a seperate pair of O2 extensions.

I'm looking to improve my exhaust note, but I also want to be emissions legal. From what I here, longtube or midtube are illegal. Can someone explain why headers are illegal? How are emmisions effected my header design? I thought an exhaust without a CAT would be illegal. So would the only mod I can do to be emissions legal be a higher flowing y-pipe and aftermarket exhaust?

Longtubes and mid-lengths move the cats rearward, which makes them less efficient and illegal.
Pacesetters all the way. I had the LM and LTs without cats and didnt like it at all. It sounded like a semi on the highway when I got on it. Get some cats to make up for that. My 2cents.
