MAF Porting

Re: MAF Porting
I wouldnt do it again, I ended up buying a used stock one. With nothing more than a Lid, FRA and Ported TB I was running 830-840 02s with the ported Maf. I was getting 3-4 degrees of constant Knock Retard.
Im now running a stock screened Maf and the car feels better all around. No more playing with the Maf for me

Re: MAF Porting
Well, removing the screen is one thing. Taking out the divider is another. People have had problems with that, and it is there to get the air around the post that holds the MAF sensor wires smoothly. If you are going to do it, get another set of ends so you don't have to worry about it.

Re: MAF Porting
I ported mine on my 01 Hawk.Did not remove the divider, just smoothed out the rough edges and knifed the center divider. It did make my car leaner which I compensated with the MAFT.After I was done there was a seat of the pants difference.

Re: MAF Porting
I ported mine the day I drove the car off the lot, I havent had a single problem with it in the 10 months I have owned the car.

Re: MAF Porting
I just did mine today after owning and getting used to the car for 2 months. I have to say, there was a significant "seat of the pants" difference. If the car is retarding the timing a bit, the performance loss is more than made up for by the improved air-flow. Of course, this is an otherwise stock motor so it's probably not as sensitive to timing, but is very receptive to increaced intake flow.
BTW, I removed the devider but left the screen because I read that the screen keeps the air straightened out before it hits the wires so the MAF actually records the correct ammount of air, whereas the devider is just a big ugly obstruction.
Getting that divider out without fscking up the screen was a heckuva job.
