Y-pipe or True Duals?
I will be ordering some Hooker LTs this week, and have been contemplating on what kind of exaust to run! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
Should I go with a Y-pipe (custom, hooker Y, etc...)and Hooker cat-back? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> ...or I was toying with the idea of a true dual system, consisting of an H-pipe,NO cats of course, Bullet mufflers, and on out the back. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Would that dual set up be TOO loud? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />
Would cutouts be unnecessary? <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />
Which would be cheaper? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
THX! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Re: Y-pipe or True Duals?
It all depends on the system. True duals will probably be cheaper, depending on the mufflers you get and the type of piping. However, if you go true dual, I would highly suggest you go with an x-pipe instead of an h. That is the only way you will get much gain over a y-pipe design. You will probably still see some gain, but not as much. True dual will weigh more, but the power gain should negate that. Also, 99.9% of people agree that true duals sound better. I have been wanting to go true duals for a while, but I finally decided the hassle of fitment, getting good SS tubing, and getting good work would be too much hassle. So I ordered a G2 y-pipe and a SLP LM catback.
BTW, the true dual system you talked about would be LOUD. And most likely you will want to dump it under the car since it will create even more headaches if you try to get the exhaust out over the axle. The only benefit to running cutouts would be if you placed them at exactly the right spot to get the most power out of open headers, IMO.

Re: Y-pipe or True Duals?
I have also been thinking about going true dual and there are many difficulties. I have been told that the best place for cutouts is 12" back from the header collectors. Also everyone here claims that it is near impossible to put an exhaust pipe over the driver side rear axle, and here in the great state of Texas it is illegal to dump your exhaust before the ending of your passenger compartment and with F-bodies that includes the hatch. For my true dual setup I was thinking FLP headers > cutouts > 3" cats > 3" bullet mufflers > turn downs before the axle and just go out in the country to get it inspected. X-pipe would be slightly beneficial but that is also difficult to get it around the M6 crossmember (only have this problem if you have a 6 speed).

Re: Y-pipe or True Duals?
It is NOT imposable to go over the drivers side axle. In fact, I have the 2 pipes, with the bullets already attached, sitting in the garage, if anyone is interested.
I switched muflers & becoming more concerned with the weight. They do fit..

True dual will be loud as hell and can get pricey if you don't do enough studying on it. You are better off using a true dual when you save up for a 422 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
It doesn't sound extremely beautiful compared to the y-pipe. Just a little better flow. If you are all about unorthodoxed... go for it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: Y-pipe or True Duals?
well i just went with the balanced h-pipe and the 12in dynomax bullet mufflers. all together it cost me 135 shipped. it will prolly cost no more than 200 to have an exhaust shop put it on so 335 isnt to pricey for a better flowing, better sounding exhaust. imo
