I don't know yet...

I'm looking for a stainless muffler that uses noise-cancelling chambers and does not contain any wadding/padding/packing/fibers/whatever.

Edelbrock has something like this, but it's not stainless steel.

Otherwise I like the Magnaflow, but I might get dual/dual tips (like the SLP ones).

either a borla or a magnaflow for me. i'm thinking of the magnaflow to keep the cost down under 2 grand. i hear the magnaflow is a great setup

i ordered the supermaxx and magnaflow 2 days ago. delivery date is for tomorow. i started taking off the stock system yesterday and finished today. took a total of 5 hours does that sound right for a 1998 with a rusty stock exhaust? i had to use a sawzall to hack it out. i wanted to save it just in case for emmissions but it is no more. oh well. i hope the install will be better. i know the reward will be much greater and cleaner.

first i took the air tubes off. i also took off #6 plug coil cause it makes it easier.then i took out all the manifold bolts. when the new bolts go into the headers theres a couple that i cant see using the torque wrench, its just to damm tight. then i got under the car and there was just to much rust on the hardware i had to ignore the instructions and do it my way. i had to cut the pipe near the manifolds [as you can see in the pics] and drop them down from the bottom. i wanted to save this stock system just in case the new system doesnt pass emmissions but as you see i was forced to cut and belive me when i say this stock system would not have gone right back together even if i could have gotten the bolts loose.then i droped the y-pipe down and there was nooooo way this pipe was coming out of the catback pipe. so as you can see in the pics i had to smash it with a hammer and keep bending and twisting untill it broke free. yeah i know, i'm a hack. lucky for me that end pipe before the axl was a little soft. then i took the stock muffler piece off. hopefully my setup comes tommoro. i'm gonna try installing without taking the plugs out.[which is not recomended in the instuctions] i'll get more pics up of the install hopefully tommoro.

headers came this morning. summit is very fast. took them 1 and 1/2 days and they charged like $9.00 for shipping. the install however has really tested my patience at times today. getting the header bolts in were the toughest part in my opinion. felt like smashing stuff. at first i was just going to tighten them down without a torque wrench but after seeing and feeling how the gaskets were squashing down i thought it would be a good idea. picked one up at advanced auto and torqued them down to 18lb. surprisingly i was able to use the torque wrench on every bolt. had to remove the oil filter and spark plugs on the driverside. these headers really fit up there very nice. i got the whole system together and its just loose right now. i didnt even need a tail pipe expander. i also have part of the magnaflow up. tomoro i will tighten everything up and finish the magnaflow.the whole system is very nice. awsome quality. i really hope when i start it up it doesnt throw any codes, run like ****,or not start.

Get some large cardboard boxes full of styro and other packing material, bash repeatedly into oblivion with a baseball bat.

Don't let that get you down, looks like your install is coming along very well there.

yeah, over all i'm pleased. hey joe, do you know exactly how hot headers get? because the boots on the plug wires touch on some of the primaries. do you know if they could melt or start a fire?

They get hot, but I don't know how hot (600 F...?).
Won't start a fire but may damage plug wire.

Maybe your wires' boots are too big.

What wires do you have...?
Do you have pics...?

they are msd wires that actually came on the car when i bought it. they all have a round heat shield around the boots but there not long enough to protect the whole boot. i should probly go look for some extra long heat shields. i cant be the only guy with this problem there must be longer shields.
i didnt take any pics today cause i was to busy swearing. after i tighten the system up tomoro i'll take some good pics.
