I just got my Hooker LT headers in today, and since my car is a 2000 obviously none of the EGR or AIR tubes match up. I'm planning on cutting the pipes to fit, and reconnecting them with heater hose and clamps. I know other people have used heater hose to stop Y-pipes from banging, so I'm wondering if I can use it to splice back together the AIR and EGR tubes? I assume there's no real pressure or vaccum in the tubes that heater hose couldn't handle either, I'm just worried about the heat.

Yeah but why don't you just get block off plates and just have the EGR and AIR tubes programed out.

If you'll do it for free I'm all for it Joe
Actually it's a money issue. I barely got the uncoated hooker headers and y-pipe. Also why I'm going this route, I didn't want to spend the money on 99 egr and air tubes. Eventually I would like to delete the egr and air and add an LS6 intake.

I dont mean to be rude, but dude yer nuts
I would be really surprised if the heater hose is going to withstand exhaust temps at the header.

Well, I will still be using the metal flanges and the metal tubing. Just cutting and pretty much sealing the metal tubing together with the heater hose once I get it in the right configuration and length. Right now the metal tubing flows into rubber hoses that go around the back of the engine, in stock form. I've looked it over some more and I think it's going to work fine.

The heater hose will stand up to it, at least on the Y-pipe for sure. I did a little write up on this for LS1.com:
Materials Needed:
(1) 3" Band Clamp
(1) 1/2 or 3/4 Piece of heater hose ~2" long
(1) Flathead Screwdriver
Take the band clamp, open it all the way up, and run it through the heater hose. Wrap it around the Y-pipe wherever its hitting the floor pan. You may or may not have to pry the Y pipe down a little bit. Close it and tighten, and you're done
I was a little worried it would melt the heater hose, but it looks to be completely fine after about 50 miles...
Hope it helps
I drove almost 200 miles in the 90 degree heat yesterday, and the heater hose still looks like it did when I put it on there. No banging, total cost, $3. Then again, that is on the Y-pipe, not sure how much hotter the headers will be.

A shop which will remain nameless used heater hose to ghetto rig the EGR on a friends LT1 Camaro after a header install. It worked for a while but eventually the exhaust gases burned thru the heater hose.
I wouldn't do it.

I used heater hose for a week til I got the 99 egr. When I took it off it looked like it wouldnt have lasted much longer.
