SLP Headers... Good or No Good????
When using aftermarket cats, does the system line up with the stock "Y" pipe? Or does the Header System come with a new "Y" pipe? Or do you have to buy a new "Y" pipe? Or do you need a professional Exhaust Shop to hook the headers up to the exhaust system???
Also... when changing plugs, I have heard good things about the FLP's, Mac's, and Hooker LT's, such as being easier than changing a plug on a LS-1 with stock exhaust manifolds. Is it harder than with a stock manifold, about the same, or easier to change the plugs than on a stock manifold with the SLP Headers???
Do you need their fancy offset plug tool to change the plugs with their Headers?????
Thanks for any and all comments....
Pros- high durability (ceramic/stainless), high quality (as far as welds, etc...), good mid-range power, 3" Y-pipe
Cons- passenger side install a bitch, hang low, some feel that performance gains aren't up to par with other headers
the Y-pipe sucks, I split mine practically inhalf <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> where the 2 merge to 1.

and the finish is starting to suck, but people are starting to say, "Its normal" <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Other than that, I like them and no, theyre not hard to install <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Most of the 'slams' of the SLP either come from people that don't own any header or some other type.
I have had mine for going on 18 months. Next to the nitrous, the SLP are the best mods yet.
Normally, you get the entire package from SLP: headers & y-pipe. You can either get the ORP or cats. You can get the install package or not. If you are in a state that has emission laws, you'll need the cats. I would suggest that you get the install package also.
Install is not easy for any of the long tube headers. They are a pain. It is normally best to have a professional install them. If you are near one of our sponsors that would be your best bet.
About the only 'problem' is the passenger side header hangs a little low. Don't plan on slamming the car to the ground. With my set-up I have had no problems - I just avoid pot-holes (we all should), and steep drive-ways.
Good Luck look at the sponsor section I believe there was a GP on them.

FLP's get my vote for the easiest to install & best groud clearance, the con is that you have to buy the crap Y pipe and convertors.
Grotts were also easy to install, and get my second vote. These are almost as easy to install as the FLP's, but are reported to give the most power, but do not have the ground clearance of the FLP's, but have better clearence than the SLP's.
I have had personally the FLP's, and the Grotts. I like the power of the Grotts, but I would have bought the FLP's if I could buy just the headers.
The Hookers seem to be the best deal out there, but I'm still waiting to hear how they are to install, what the ground clearance is compared to the others that are out there, and the dyno results. Good luck with your choice.
Yes, the install sucks, and on a stock ride height vehicle you will have 4 1/2 inches of ground clearance at their lowest point. Which that is only a half an inch lower than the stock y-pipe on the 01/02 F-bods.
