Any updates? Like how often do you have to drain the can?

TIA, Rob

Default catch can looks awesome man

a few quick questions

how do you clean the intake, i would like to clean mine when i put in my catch can.

how much is braided line and heat shrink tubing, do you know if these are they available at Lowe's/Home Depot, etc. as well?

do i have to route my hose the same you did, because i would like mine to just be more of an L shape from the VC to the IM.

thanks

Got mine mounted; looks ok but will look better when I get a bracket made. Took a 60-mile trip and was quite surprised at how much oil was in the can. Will be curious to see how much oil will be in the can after my trip to Phoenix this week.

No. The catch can has nothing to do with those items, and you'll still need it.

The catch can goes inline of the PCV system (positive crankcase ventilation). It vents crankcase gasses into the intake manifold. Go look right behind the throttle body on the intake manifold, on the passenger side. You'll see a black line plugged in where the stainless line is plugged into the manifold in the pic in post 1.

You need to do something about venting the crank case. That's like saying "my car burns too much gas, can't I just stop putting gas in it?"

Some people run breather filters that vent the cranck case gasses into the atmosphere, do a search on threads started by SUX2BU and you'll find it.

I just did the same thing, however I used a can with a glass bottom so I could see the oil(still made by Cambell). However I couldn't find any braided line so it looks like crap for now lol

Looks great man. I have a question though, I was about to go buy the stuff to do this to mine, but then I thought I should check out how my PCV system works. When the shop put the new motor in I had already had an LS6 PCV valley cover on the shortblock, I checked mine out, I dont have a PCV tube running around the back of the motor, there is a breather filter on the back of the driverside valvecover, so where your braided line hooks up to the PCV is non existent on mine, it just connects from the intake to the male connector from the valley cover, then there is that seperate hose you have that is the same on mine that goes from the TB to the valvecover, and then the other connector on the valvecover is blocked. Heres some pics. Sorry for the bad quality, camara phone.

Can I still do a catch can, would it go between where the valley connects to the intake? Any info is appreciated!

The PVC system is under vacuum. Is your setup sealed? You can't just run a hose to the ground that is open to the PVC line as it would create a massive vacuum leak. The PVC system can have a tube going to the ground as long as there is a valve at the bottom of the glass that can be closed off to prevent the vacuum leak.

I did the same setup on my car. In fact, I think I originally got the idea from YOU when searching for catchcan info. The line between the oil seperator and TB is also bone dry on my setup. In 2000 miles of driving I have yet to empty the "catchcan". The oil level stays the same inside it just like yours. I wonder why? Oh well, at least our intakes are staying clean!

IMHO the whole range from CH separator to expensive AMW catch can effectiveness is highly overblown. They look nice and collect a little oil but they do not come close to solving the probem of ingesting oil. I have had both and done all the upgrades and still suck oil particularly during decell from high rpm. The setup shown will do little real good and going to a LS6 valley cover with closed off valve covers as done in 04 has the best, but not great results.

lol, the reason the level stays the same is because it's being sucked into the intake. It's not catching any more oil, the filter is saturated.

Like I said, been there done that .

I did the LS6 valley cover and the AMW catch can. The only difference between the AMW setup and the CH is the AMW has more capacity. You're going to have to buy new filters for the CH like every 400mi. The AMW works great, I even added some more steel wool to catch more.

Doesn't matter though, even with all that done the engine is still sucking in oil. Not nearly as much, but it's still there.

The best solution is to just vent it to the atmosphere.

I think you would need a large enough catch can to reduce the velocity thereby allow the oil to fall due to gravity and then allow the air to continue into the engine. Like a reversed venturi effect. Go from small tube to large and slow the air flow down.
