ehh...not so sure about that. I could see the motor sucking in water way too easily, on the right track though. What some people do is use some stainless steel wool so basically the oil goes to the bottom of the can via that hose i mentioned, and then the air goes back through the wool. In this case, if the oil was still a vapor, it would condense/stick to all of that steel wool as it passed through on its way out.

Others also use a fuel filter(s) that they change every time mthey change their oil that will grab the oil out of the air, but I see this as being sort of a pain.

i've run my catch can for several thousand miles and it's been working great....until a few weeks ago. i noticed the can is only about 1/10 filled with oil and not "catching" anymore. the filter looks really really dirty. i went to homedepot but they dont sell replacement filters for it, so i'd have to buy a totally new can. however, some of you said to totally remove the filter? would it still be able to catch oil w/o a filter? if so maybe i should try it because for the last couple hundred miles it hasnt caught a single drop.

As you probably read, REMOVE the filter. It's getting that dirty because it's not meant to filter oil. Don't worry about trying to find a replacement filter. Hell, if you really want one, I think I have mine that I took out 3+ years aggo rolling around in my toolbox.
