Help .. ticking noise
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks
Greg
Any opinions on this????
1. Pushrods are straight
2. Vapor valve is fine
3. A.I.R. gaskets are fine
4. Spark Plugs are all tight

I have posted this many times before. If you have a tapping sound, piston slap is a very good possibility, but before you convince yourself that you indeed have piston slap, bent pushrods, noisy injectors, etc, at least try this first:
Start your cold engine in the morning. After about 1 minute, does it start “tapping”? Tapping lasts until the engine warms up and then stops? You may just be a victim of the “Purge Valve From Hell”. Your fuel vapor purge valve is located right next to the #1 fuel injector. That’s the most forward injector on the driver’s side. One of the hoses that are wrapped in silver tape mounts to this valve.
Now that you have identified the purge valve, start your [cold] engine and let it idle. As soon as the tapping sound starts, unhook the electrical connector to the valve (while engine is still idling).
If the tapping sound stops, you have found the problem. Your warranty will replace the valve, but it’s just a crapshoot whether you get a quiet one or not. If you are not under warranty, I believe the valve costs under $35.

From what I've been able to determine, it's 1 of the following:
1. piston slap
2. lifter problem
3. exhaust leak
I believe it's an exhaust leak..... when i life the car up I can see/feel the exhaust leak at the y-pipe (from having my trans dropped 3 or 4 times)

The ticking noise you get is when a cylinder fires and the gas leaks before it reaches the primaries. Getting a leak at the y-pipe isn't that bad. Just kinda like running a smaller cut out.
I have the same problem too in my camaro a ticking sound when it warm it up then it slowly goes away when the motor warms but its still noticable

Yep, that's what I got going on in my car too. It's coming from the front drivers side. I had the car on jackstands last night and I could hear it real well from underneath. Then I popped the hood and it was just as loud from there. The ticking used to be less noticable when the car warmed up, but now it seems like I notice it all the time. Definitely not as loud though as when I first turn on the car. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but could this cause the car to run lean?? I dyno'd 2 weeks ago and my car is running very lean.
Thanks!

I did put in 10/30 amsoil which some said helped .
I mostly just ignore it now..have a loud stereo so pretty easy to do .Also if you have messed with gaskets on egr tubes or air tubes possible source of noise there.I have block off plates on my car..no egr or air crap.I will be intalling headers shortly so see if the noise goes away.If not well maybe get rid of it eventually when I put in new rings ,pistons and stuff or do a stroker or get bigger bore.Car runs fine oil consumption isn't that bad..
that it gets louder with engine load /
throttle. Put it in gear + brake and give
it a little pedal. If it doesn't get louder,
it isn't an exhaust leak.
