Anyways, thanks for the help guys. Now if I choose to get the lid. Should I go with a smooth bellow also, or does it really matter that much? I have heard that the best combo is: 1. Lid 2. Smooth Bellow 3. K&N Filter. Is this true?

My opinion is to just get the lid. I have the smooth bellows but they are just an appearance mod really and most times they have to be trimmed to fit right. I used to use a Holley reusable filter but it would coat my MAF with oil and after reading a lot about how there is no real performance advantage I went back to a paper filter.

I've run both ....currently an FIPK , I actually gained 5 HP over the stock airbox and I think it looks better IMO than a lid. I got a pretty good deal on mine so it was worth it to me.

I love my FIPK but IAT's do get quite high sometimes, as for which lid, i am under the impression that they are all close to the same, maybe the tsp one.

The smooth bellows is something id get when you find a good deal but its not a priority. Look around you can usually find them for really cheap! I see people selling them on this site cheap sometimes, or another place to get one is on ebay. I bought mine on there and believe it or not i only paid 15 bucks shipped, but i got lucky there was almost no bidding on it. They are nice but i dont think they are worth 50 bucks!

I am going to do an FIPK, but i plan to build a shroud arorund it myself (Kind of like the volant, but not exactly) to keep out the hot air. you could still do a FRA too, just cutting the metal plate that replaces your lower airbox. you kind of get the best fo both worlds, a sealed box so you can still do FRA and the larger surface area of the FIPK filter. Dependig on how you made the box, you could make it work with the ram air hood, rather than, or in conjunction with, a FRA. Just an idea.

One thing I did once to lower iat's a lot is to take the AC shroud off. Doing so dropped my iat's with a lid by 20-30 degree's. Also my car ran cooler both around town and on the highway. It's free too.

Default What filter

in response to firebirdman469's question about what filter w/ a lid, you'll probably find that a k+n is pretty much unnecessary, and that the stock paper filter variety will work just fine. Somebody said on here once that maybe, on a scale from 1-10, the k+n flows like an 8 and the paper like a 7, but if you only need a max flow of 5, lets say, then either will work. Somebody feel free to chime in if this is completely worng, but i think this is a pretty good analogy to picture it.

Get a lid and CAI, and leave the stock box (with a little customization of the bottom to accomodate the scoop)...
