I wish my 2001 would have enough timing to detonate! I would take it and tune around it!

Default GM solution to detonation

According to the july 2002 issue of GM Tech Link,(a monthly publication for GM dealerships)this is the solution to solve detonation."02-06-04-023;audible spark knock(detonation),MIL Illuminated, DTC PO332 set(replace rear bank knock sensor and rtv area around sensor);`98-02 camaro, corvette, firebird with 5.7L engine(VIN G-RPO LS1),`99-02 chev gmc trucks & suvs with 4.8,5.3,and 6.0 engines(VINs V,T,Z,N,U-RPOs LR4,LM7,L59,LQ9,LQ4)"I wonder if this will solve the problems that a lot of us seem to be experiencing.

I don't think you would want detonation. It can really wreak havoc on pistons.Once it detonates, you get KR therefore loss of timing and horsepower.I do wish I could tune this frickin car myself but don't have the equipment or know how to do so.I'll just take it back to my GM dealer and see if this service bulletin repair will work.

What he was trying to say was our 01's have alot less timing than 98-00's so we dont get detonation like the others unless our pcv is sucking oil like a starving vampire or another problem exists. My 00 ws6 pulled 4-4.5 more degrees of timing than either of my 01's do. Less timing and alot more TM with the 01-02's.

Well if a knock sensor is bad, then replacing it means you'll have knock retard instead of detonation. Of course, this is better for the engine, but doesn't solve the real problem (tuning off, or whatever's causing the knock).

The 01-02 models have about 10 degrees of advance ground into the camshaft and less timing is needed.

BTW, for all with detonation issues i would modify PCV system first with in line seperator, and see if this helps knock issues before anything else. It works great for me, i can really lean my setup out with no knock issues at all.
