Plugs and wires went in too...no Y pipe or cats until Wed. Hehehe, VERY LOUD (sound clip coming soon)

hehe. well, i was very upset that it took that long . my FLPs only take 2 hours to take them off and put them back on.

i could not get to that last bolt for the life of me. on my 01 i could get it from the bottom no problem...however, on the 99s the manfiolds are different and you cant get any sort of movement in there. we went to sears and picked up 5 different attachments hoping one of them would work. we ended up getting it out with a 1/4" drive, a real short extension, and a short socket. there wasnt enough leverage so i had to use a deep sock on a long extension as my breaker bar. nick was holding the drive on with the tips of his fingers from the bottom so it wouldnt fly off what a PITA! once we got that last bolt off everything else was a breeze, except for putting that last bolt back on. again, i couldnt reach the last one from the bottom with the grotts like i could with the flps. they look nice though.

ease of install def goes to flps for this one

99 f-bodies

i made those pictures dialup friendly now
nick- it was like 2 hours to get tools i think .

Yeah, it probably did take 2+ hours to get tools now that I think of it.

I can now put Grot's on in two hours. Just gotta know all the tools. Most important are a ball swivel socket for the header bolts and stubby ratchet wrenches. That's about it. Passenger side is the easiest, driver side requires dropping the motor mount out. It did take me a long time the first time though! And now I take the coil packs off for more room (takes 10 minutes or less to do).

It wouldn't have mattered what else we removed, that bolt was hard to get to on my '99 because of the manifold design.
The driver's side was kinda hard to get in.
Y pipe is going on today (hopefully) and if I can do what I want, it should be SCHWEET!

It took me and some budies about 6- 6.5 hours. We didnt have to drop any motor mounts. We had to take the oil filter off. The headers went in OK. We also took the coil packs off for more whrench room.

I designed my own Y pipe. I use mandrel bends that were slip fit. It's super sweet! My budies and I built it the same day we installed the headers. We had no idea how the Y pipe would turn out. Some how it came out perfect the first time. We worked over 12hours strait. IT WAS ALL WORTH IT.

I would like to post pics of the Y but don't have a host. I'm also willing to give ya my Y specs. I can email pics too.

In regards to your first post, yes! That damned last bolt on the pass. side manifold was ATLEAST 3 hours alone. In the time it took a friend of mine to remove the entire drivers side. I was still working on the last bolt. Needless to say, a 6" breaker bar, and a couple bruised knuckles later, I got the bastard off. I was so scared the head of the bolt was just gonna snap off.

I think the bastards at GM use extra loctite on that last header bolt, as well as overtighten the top bolts on the tranny and several other spots just to make the life of a hotrodder more interesting

Pete, yes I'm going. Wanna meet up? E-mail me.

The "Y" pipe is in!! I will post pix tomm. in a different post. Un-freaking believable. Who said I couldn't do dual 3" cutouts AND dual cats...

Roy: On each side they had no choice but to weld the cutouts pretty close to the headers, oh well. It was a fitament issue. Driving there with open headers was fun. I set off a car alarm at 2,000 RPMs and the car was 75 feet away!!

The car feels VERY strong. Can't wait for some time slips!

Car idles great, runs great, and threw no codes. So far Grotts!
Gotta stay away from the cops now more than ever. I get a $200 fine and 1 year supervision and what do I do?? Put on headers
I'll keep everyone posted.

Nick,

Stop by my house tommorow if youre in the neighborhood, I wanna check out your setup.

I finally got my car back today with the McLeod Street Twin installed. The clutch is grabbing like a mother now I havent been able to chirp into 2nd gear for the past 3 months, now I'm going sideways into 2nd I cant believe how bad my clutch was burned, there were actual chunks missing and the flywheel had major hotspots all over. No wonder I've been running such crappy trap speeds

Roy, No can do for US41 on Sunday. Got a bunch of stuff I need to do before we close on the house and move. Besides, looks like the weather will be muggy. I was just asking cause a couple of my friends with their Vettes were thinking of going on Sat. But I think they changed their minds cause of the rain.

LS6 Stage 3 heads and B1 cam going in VERY soon

I have PSJ's original set of Grott's from his 98 SS. Every 5-10k miles I retighten them and I have no problem way in the back on either side. And Roy, I know you have smaller arms than me

If you can get the car up high enough you wouldn't probably have to pull the motor mount. In my case the 1 7/8 pipes don't fit up there without pulling the mount out. I just can't get it high enough to slip it up there. If I had a rack that would be a different story.

Drop the starter and you can get to the back bolt regardless of manifold or header. Personally, the manifold is a little easier to get to.
