Default Bellhousing bolt holes stripped!!

I've had this ls1 for a while sitting in the garage for my third gen swap. Well the genious I got it from decided to hang it from an engine stand using traditional sbc 9/16 bolts!!! So now 5 of my bolt holes are cross threaded including one on the oil pan! What's the best way to fix this? Would a heli-coil fix it? They are only cross threaded about halfway down so maybe I could just get a tap and clean the threads? Please help!

Hi
I would use the heli-coils to fix it. Why take a chance with 1/2 the thread being good. They also make a metal inserts (like a heli-coil) but I think work better.

I figured heli coils were probably my best bet. I just didn't know if they would be strong enough to hold the tranny to the motor. What are those metal inserts you are talking about? Are they better than heli coils?

Another option is to drill out the old threads and re-tap bigger, then drill the holes in the bellhousing to fit the bigger bolts through.

Yea, I thought about that too. Just trying to see what my best, safest, and strongest option is.

Heli-coil is stronger. Use it.

Yea, I think I will go that route. I just hope I can find the heli coils that size.
