Default Lets compare Catbacks..

Which catback setup has the least restriction and does not sound loud. I want comparisons between the catbacks.. i.e., SLP dual dual against the Hooker Catback for example..

i love my hooker catback! i've got FLP longtubes with no cats and its nice and tame at idle but when u rip into it man ohh man it is intoxicating ohh course if i ever want it louder i can just open the cutout ....i used to have a wide open Borla and there is no comparision the Hooker sounds WAY better IMO...

The Hooker catback defintely flows better than the SLP dual-dual. On a heads/cam setup, we normally only see 4-5rwhp with a cutout on the Hooker. With the D/D, we have yet to see less than a 10rwhp gain.

Another plus for the Hooker is the ability to remove the muffler and tips at the track for ~20lb weight savings. It is only 3 bolts and and the muffler comes out.

I have the Hooker catback with the cats deleted, and it sounds superb! Its tame until you get on it. It sounds the best at around 2500 rpm range. But definately remove the cats or its not loud enough. Love my Hooker

Ahhh...Just the post I was looking for! I have been thinking about a Hooker CBS for some time now. I think it sounds great from the sound clip I heard...Not to loud like the SLP loud mouth, I like to make people smile ...not annoy them ! and since I am deleting my cats...I think it will sound even better! One question though, I just installed SLP LT headers and I want to get an off-road pipe that will bolt right up to them and the hooker CBS...anybody know where to find one that WILL work?
Also, can someone comment on this: What is the best way to go after I delete the Cats...o2 SIMMs or LS1 edit? I was told that LS1 edit is able to block out the rear o2 sensors all together so the SES light doesn't come on etc... is this true???

2002 NBM Vert. # 778
SLP LT headers
SLP Y-Pipe
SLP free flow cats (soon to be gone)
SLP Smooth Bellows
SLP MAF
SLP air lid
Cold Air Induction kit
K&N
160 Stat.
SFC's
STB
Future mods include:
Hooker Catback Sys.
HPP3 or LS1 Edit
3300 Stall
Lightened flywheel
3:73's
Cam and Heads package
Upgraded Tranny to handle all the power!

I only lose like 5-6 rwhp through my Hooker catback compared to running and open y-pipe. I have heard of people losing 15rwhp through the d/d on similarly modded cars. I would say the Hooker is the quietest catcback with the least amount of rwhp loss. IF you have a cam, headers, and no cats it eliminates 99% of that nasty resonance.

I've also come to like the fact that more people will race you if your car is quite.

After giving the true duel X pipe setup a thought I decided to keep my 3in Single Race Magnum setupw/single 3in tail pipe.

Its not the best looking system but it flows SERIOUS CFM..

In order to remove the converters, do you need to do anything else? Or is it just as easy as putting in a peice of pipe in their place. Its not gonna trip a code or anything is it? And by the way, why no love for the Flowmaster American Thunder. I have one and think its pretty cool. Gotten many compliments on the sound and look. Its quiet on the highway and at idle, but pretty loud when you get on it.
