Default TSP True Duals

I can only get the L-1 and R-1 pipes about 1 1/4 inches over the collector on the header. Is this going to be enough or will it leak? How much did you guys have inserted before you clamped it down? Thanks

As far as possible, I would want 2.5-3" in there. You may want to get a die grinder with a flap sander and work the inside a little bit. You might also be able to get a pipe expander (you can rent them from Autozone someone said), and get it to slip better. Lubing up the outside of the pipe you're slipping in might help too.

i had issues with mine too. so i rented the pipe expander from autozone and made it easier. stil had a few issues with only small amount of overlap, and it does leak there but i plan to take it to the shop to get adjusted because i dont feel like messing with it.

I rented the pipe expander from Autozone a couple days ago and while it helped, I still don't think its enough. I'm going to bring the L-1 and R-1 pipes to an exhaust shop and hopefully they can expand it.

With the band clamps, you don't have to go too far on the collector. I normally go 1/2" minimum, most of the time its more than that. On the pacesetter headers, I usually have just enough room to fit the band clamp without it hitting the o2 sensor though.

Are the TSP True Duals made for uncoated headers?

Its made for coated mainly, its just a tight fit on the collectors as its important to have a good seal close to the O2 sensors.

Would it harm anything if I sanded down the coating on the collector for a better fit? Has anybody done this?

im lucky if i have an inch on my passenger side(r1)pipe and I have the l1 pipe fully inserted, so much that the band clamp hits the 02 sensor and is not clamped on the joint part of the pipes. I torqued everything down to 60ftlbs. and have no leaks. I say put em on the best you can and torque em down to 60ftlbs. and see how it turns out, i have no leaks on mine even with some of the pipes loosely slipping over the other pipes and the l1 pipe not having the band clamp in the right spot.

Its not all in the coating having the tight fit, sometimes I see a few ovaled collectors, I assume its from the final welding or something to do with the way the coating is cured if they heat it.

It seems like that is exactly what a lot of members do, just watch the momentum....if you are sanding one side and the other end of the pipe is uneven, it could easily be a little bit of a problem. Therefore take your time and do it right. You'll be much happier in the end, trust me, with a nice tight fitting header collector....one that makes both a perfect seal and doesn't remove too much of the relevent material, if at all.

I have about 2 3/4 inches on the driver's side, and 1 1/2 inches on the passenger side, and nothing's fallen off yet. I do need to go back and put some aluminum foil around the joint, because I've stretched the band clamp so many times that it's not sealing that good anymore.

It's amazing how well this system will slide on when you put antiseize around the lip of the header collector though...

Just don't get out the power sander LOL. Once you have the material you want to remove lined up appropriately carefully remove the required metal, otherwise there would be a massive un-even-ness that wouldn't do anybody any good lol.
