EMISSIONS COMPLIANT?
so i've got slp headers,cats,y-pipe,and loudmouth for my basically stock 2000 TA taking up space in my living room. i was wondering if this will be a emissions legal set-up? even though there currently is no testing in my area, i plan on retaining all emissions equipment just in case. plus, i figured the cats would help quiet the exhaust a bit, as well as satisfy anyone who dared to look. who knows something about all this?

Re: EMISSIONS COMPLIANT?
It is never legal to replace a properly functioning stock catalytic converter. It is also not legal to move them from their stock location. That is why only shorty headers can have a CARB #. You will probably get away with it though (most inspectors don't take the time to look under the car anyway) and since there is no testing in your area don't worry about it.

Re: EMISSIONS COMPLIANT?
now i'm wondering why i bothered with the cats at all. figured if a cop pulled me for noise and decided to look, i would be ok by having the cats. also seems like more than a few have problems with o2 sims.

A cop would need a mirror to look under my car for anything! But seriously i would build a awesome non legal system for all but test time and swap untouched oem system back in when needed. Best of both worlds. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: EMISSIONS COMPLIANT?
Heads and Cam (with Steve Cole aftermarket tuning), with longtubes, Random tech cats and ATR Cat-Back and I passed Illinois's emissions test.
Although I didn't have to take the IM240 roller test. Just recently they enacted that 1996+ OBDII cars no longer need to take this as a primary test. Instead, they hook up to your data port under the dash and check for DTC's as well as the parameters of your PCM working.
They also did a visual test which basically consisted of the guy bending over in back and checking to see if I had a muffler.

If you fail the computer test, it is then YOUR choice to do the roller test or come back later once you fix any problems.
