I believe the difference between hooker headers, and jet-hot headers, is that one has the O2 bung on the inside (toward the tranny), and the other has the O2 bung on the outside (toward the doors).

Why not get Pacesetters? They are a great price, great fit, and have great performance. They are the only choice in my mind if you don't want to drop the dough on stainless headers.

Your 2001 car has no EGR system, and the AIR is only used to make the cats reach the emissions legal light off point faster. My recommendation is get the "race" headers with no fittings and have the AIR/ Rear O2 sensors delted via LS1edit or HPtuners by a shop. Running O2 sims costs about the same as getting the codes delted. Removing the AIR frees up space under you hood, takes off some weight, and looks better.

Pacesetters.....done and done. That would work well for your power needs.

I just installed a set of ceramic coated Pacesetter long tubes and Y pipe on one of my trucks. For the price it's a good deal altho the Y pipe is not ceramic coated. It's a good looking header if that matters and I noticed that it starts pulling hard earlier on in the RPM range since I installed the long tubes. I had a stainless shortie on there before which I now know was a waste of time and money.

I have the Hooker coated LT's and I like them. I would get them with an off-road y-pipe for maxium power gains.

I looked into jethot, first, before I knew anything, but after reading so much about the inferior coating, and that it flakes off, I went Pace and never looked back.

I got the caoted pacesetters because frankly, they're cheap, with a good reputation for fitting, and not warping the flanges.
FWIW if you can swing the cost, go with a set of stainless headers (I think hooker makes a stainless set for LS1s) then the only reason to get them coated is the thermal protection .
As for the cats, they won't hurt too bad, maybe 2-4 hp on a stockish motor, and they go a long way in toning down the rasp of the exhaust, plus they take most of the gas smell out (if you care that is)
EGR is internal on the 01&02 f bodys, so you don't need a fitting, the AIR, you can take off, or leave on depending if you have to pass a visual emissions inspection (another reason to get cats too), if you don't, rip that stuff out the engine looks alot cleaner without it

One more for Pacesetters. Fitment was PERFECT. Sound is great. Had great power gains too. Good luck with any header you choose. They are all a great for volume. HEHE

If your stuck between the JetHots and Hookers, I can send you pics of my JetHots and Mufflex ORY. Both are very nice. I was thnkin of mounting the headers above my fireplace they are so nice. They are sittin here in the livingroom in the box.

Just waiten for the time to install. I can send all the pics you want and from any angle since they are off the car.

Let me know.

Shrugs, I was just in your dilemma. Deciding which LT's to get to replace my rusty old mac mids and catted Y. Since I wanted a catted y-pipe, I was looking at alot of the 1000+ headers. After already dishing out almost 2k in mods this month, and not to mention the price for the installs, I couldnt afford to put out that much.. IE kooks.

Thus, I looked at the more budget line of headers. Jet hots, hooker, pacesetter etc. The best bang for the buck, with least issues seemed to be the new pacesetter LT's with the TSP catted y-pipe. Coated LT's, y-pipe combo off the shelf was 750 or so shipped.

The save in price covered my cam package

Anyways.

If money isn't an issue.. I still say Kooks.

Any reason? Just because one says "Hooker Headers"? The pacesetters headers are the best thing since sliced bread when it comes to LS1 parts.

There is NO reason not to get pacesetters if you don't want stainless. They work perfect, look perfect, fit perfect, and are cheap. It's like paying $.50 for chrome valve stem caps, or paying $1.00 for chrome valve stem caps.

If they were not up to snuff, do you think %90 of the people on here would be running them and advising you to do the same?
