I too considered a Y-pipe "only" until i get my headers. However, i was informed that you lose low end & gain top end with the y-pipe?? Does this sound accurate. I was also told this was a waste of $$$!!?? I was planning on the Hooker Y on my Borla. Hmmmmmmmmm interesting...

MARK FRANCO, if you only gained 6 rwhp with ANY headers, then you have some other issues to deal with. I agree with John (WILWAXU) and others that most headers made for our cars gain the average person 20-25 rwhp.
DON'T think that y-pipe only is your answer. The SLP y is nice, don't get me wrong. But the stock manifolds are restrictive.
Here's my experience/opinion. Take it FWIW. Because I changed more than one thing at once, I can't comment on exactly how much I gained from the SLP headers. What I do know is that I swapped my SLP's for the Grott 1 7/8's and saw no measureable gains. IMO, the SLP's are one of the best headers available to our cars. Stainless, no banging on the floorboard, no rusting. Yes, install is a little tougher than some of the others, but the install is only done once. The "problems" that some of the others deal with are everyday issues.
I invite the SLP critics to chime in. These headers are great. I ran 11 teens all day with a stock bottom end H/C car last year. Call them spagetti if you want, but it's better than a rusting, floor banging "straight design" if you asked me
Have any of you guys seen the headers on the new BMW M3? Talk about spagetti!!! Now someone tell me those German engineers don't know what they're doing.........

Re: SLP Headers, 1 3/4" Tuned/Long Tube 2001-02 LS-1 Camaro/Firebird P/N: 30053
To ONYXSS and others;
My post was not to slam anyone or SLP for that matter. I wanted to post my results in the hopes of maybe helping someone. I feel that (and proved by my own dyno results)on a basically stock engine, that headers are a VERY EXPENSIVE way to get more HP. Again, my original post states that i only saw 3-6 HP BELOW 3600 RPM, and up to 14 HP/Lbs/ft around 5200 (all at the rear wheels). I could give you the exact figures for each 100 rpm increment,if you want to get technical. These increases equated to an honest tenth and 1mph in the 1/4 both under stringent conditions. If you plan on getting into the motor, then by all means, get the headers. I was trying to help someone like myself, trying to raise a family and paying a mortgage while trying to have a little fun too, would not over spend on an upgrade that didn't get the results advertised. I also want to highlight that the 41 Hp gains achieved were not on a stock motor. It all depends on your intended goal with the car. I would like to continue the path of upgrades, but also have to realize the other issues at hand. The car is very good and VERY consistant out of the box. I have drag raced for over 20 years off and on, and while it is nice to go fast, consistancy is the thing that will get you the prize money and your car recognized. The faster you go, the more issues that you will have to contend with (ie traction). So in closing, if you have money and time to burn along with a long term commitment for your car, go for it. Just try to remember, only make one change at a time and to test after each change so that you can honestly verify the results.

Ok MARK FRANKO made is super clear.
"DONT BUY THOSE HEADERS FIRST, THEY WILL ONLY GIVE YOU TRUE PERFORMANCE AFTER MODIFYING YOUR STOCK F-BODY ENGINE"

Dont get me wrong. I was just trying to find out whether it was worth spending $800++ on the headers for stock motor. And clearly it doesnt sound worth it. Might as well save up and get something else FOR NOW.

I have had no complaints about my SLP LT's. I have yet to go to the strip, but autoX a lot. I did not dyno it yet.
My friend has almost the same car, and his is BONE STOCK, and mine is not (see sig) Mine pulls a lot harder than his. His dyno'd at 307hp at the wheels.
I did not loose any low end torque, but seemed to gain all over the RPM range.
My $.02

02 silver WS6,
German engineers dont know what they're doing?
no disrespect here but umm emm... *cough.. ahem ehem...
if it was true then tell me how a V6 turbo could spank your WS6 (and mine) and do over 180 miles stock? Plus have automatic wheel distribution system that allows it to be Rear wheel drive, front wheel drive and 4 wheel drive when it is needed?... lets drop this seriously.. I LOVE my WS6 and most american cars but when you go towards Europe (like germany or maybe italy) you truly wont believe how TRUE physics is researched and obtained within those fantastic machines.
lets just get back to the headers talk...
